CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN – KAYLA THE LIFEGUARD
Panic ripped through the yacht like a rogue wave. The scream echoed, bouncing off the water, followed by a sickening splash. In the blink of an eye, the carefree atmosphere vanished, replaced by frantic shouts and pointing fingers.
"Someone fell overboard!" A woman in a scarlet dress shrieked, her voice cracking with terror. Chaos erupted. People scrambled to the railing, their faces illuminated by the flickering fairy lights, all searching the dark water where a single, desperate cry for help had faded.
Kayla, frozen in disbelief moments ago, snapped back to reality. Her gaze darted towards the spot, a chilling picture forming in her mind. There, a dark silhouette bobbed in the water, thrashing wildly.
"Lifeguards!" A man bellowed, his voice strained. He raced towards the back of the yacht, his urgency evident. But time seemed to stretch, agonizingly slow. The person in the water sputtered and flailed, their frantic movements a stark contrast to the still night sky.
