CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO – AN OLD FLAME
Rummaging through their scant supplies, Kayla's fingers closed around a tattered pair of overalls and a faded baseball cap. It wasn't much, but it would have to do.
"Here," she whispered, tossing the clothes to Lance. "Put these on."
He arched an eyebrow, but knew better than to question her in the heat of the moment. With deft movements, he shed his street clothes and donned the ragged overalls, his chiseled features disappearing beneath the baseball cap's brim.
Kayla, meanwhile, set to work on her own transformation, smudging her face with streaks of grime and tousling her hair into a wild tangle. She grabbed a ratty flannel shirt and cinched it at the waist, completing the look with a pair of worn work boots.
"How do I look?" she asked, her voice a rough approximation of the exaggerated drawl they had been practicing.
Lance's eyes widened, and for a moment, he seemed genuinely taken aback. "Like a completely different person," he murmured, shaking his head in wonder.
