Chapter 12

In short, she just wanted to enjoy her freedom. "What are you thinking?" Daniel asked, jolting her out of her thoughts. "That I hope we could enjoy today without you lecturing me on how much I needed a man in my life". She answered honestly. "Well, I won t today but can t say for the other days ahead" He replied then continued, there is this new restaurant that recently opened here on this island, I have been there once but I m sure, you my dear haven t even heard of it talk more been there. "Can we go there?" He asked "As you wish," she said A few minutes later, they headed out of the office, after Daniel had packed up his bag, sorted through the important files, and gave some last minutes instructions to his secretary. "Thank you, ma am, for the cake," Andrea said to Mitchell "You are welcome, Andrea" She replied. And bade her farewell. At the lobby, the receptionists and the two security officers walked up to her and thanked her for standing up for them. "Now you are everyone s hero. Aren t you?" Daniel asked "Hero! She said, rolling the word on her tongue. That sounds good, you know?" She replied to him. Daniel smiled. "Your car or mine? He asked as he pulled her closer, dropping his hand over her shoulder possessively as they walked out into the garage." "Yours," She answered. I will call Abdul to come and pick mine here. He has a key with him. Daniel gave her a lopsided look. Then said, "Letting your chauffeur have a spare key to your car, aren t you being too trusting?" "Abdul has been with me for a long time. I should trust him" "More than me?" He asked "No... Just like you." She answered Daniel stopped. Took a swift turn and came face to face with her. He looked serious, "You are not allowed to trust anybody just like me." Mitchell looked at him for a while, then threw her hands over him in an embrace while laughing merrily. She answered. "Yes, boss." "Good," he said, walking to the car to open the car door for her. And they drove out of the company. FROWNING, MICHAEL WATCHED from his office window as Daniel and the lady walked hand in hand laughing merrily towards the garage wondering what Daniel had said to make her laugh so heartily. She had even embraced him. He felt a tight knot in the pit of his stomach. What s happening to him, for all he knew that lady could be Daniel s girlfriend although he had said otherwise and hoped it was just as he had said. But why did he feel jealous at the sight of Mitchell embracing another man? He moved away from the window and let out a loud hiss. He should be furious at her and not feel like an idiot. He walked to the bar in his office and brought out an expensive wine from the array of exotic wines in his wine bar, filled his cup, and walked back to the window. Daniel s car was gone. Michael loosened his tie and quaffed his drink in one gulp. It did nothing to loosen the tight knot in his stomach. "Who was this lady and why was she making him feel this way?" Things he hadn t felt in a long while. Feelings he had buried somewhere deep inside of him where nobody can certainly reach. Earlier in the lobby, he had been momentarily shocked when she appeared out of nowhere and for a brief moment, he thought he was seeing an angel. Of course, she has the look of an angel, a beautiful innocent face. Too innocent for that body of an enchantress. She had little or probably no make-up on but still she had turned head. His head. She wasn t exactly the way Michael likes his women. He preferred them looking glamorous and all dolled up with makeup looking exactly like a model and not some innocent wide brown eye angel. He also preferred his women submissive and not questioning his authority, but this lady had dared to tell him what to do, criticized him, and made him apologize to his staff and as if those weren t enough, she had the nerves to walk out on him. She had even told him she had a far more important thing to do, making him unimportant. How could anyone think him unimportant? But this lady had just said so. Michael wondered what sort of a woman Mitchell was, standing up for some mere employees, even when she was ignorant of whom she was standing up against. Certainly, she was a kinder, softer woman than the more selfish ones he usually spent his time with, and petulantly, he admitted that Mitchell s altruistic manner reminded him of his grandmother. The only selfless, caring, and constant woman in his life, she was always putting other people first in everything she did, and his grandmother just like Mitchell won t sit by and watch anyone being rude or intimidating a weaker body because to her the essence of power is to be kind to the powerless. Michael moved away from the window back to his seat. He rang his secretary "Come into my office now" He barked into the phone, replacing the receiver even before the secretary could finish saying, yes sir.
