Chapter 3: Friend

"Why do you want to know?" she rudely replied. "Because I may be your only help here," I said, and somehow my words seemed funny to her. "Are you kidding me?" she burst into scornful laughter, "You must be... I don't even know what to say but what makes you think you are close to being helpful to me on this?" she asked. "I don't know" I shrugged and continued, "I just believe I can find a way out for you. I have friends studying there" "Really? Tell me more please" she said as she composed herself. I knew she was going to maintain the moment I explain further, hence I heaved a sigh and proceeded, "You can get admission into Oxford through a scholarship if you can afford the tuition fees though," I said. "But how? How, Laura?" she queried. "Well, thank God I have three friends there. There is Juliet, Annabella, and there is Trinity. I will talk to them later and get back to you" I said. "Hmm, fine… okay, I will wait until then. But you should know that I don't like it when people keep me waiting" she warned. "You don't have to worry about that, just give me a day or two to talk to them. I will also do my research..." I said as she cut in, "You will what? No, please... I don't need your research. I don't want to end up with unreliable information you may find on the internet. Just ask your friends. Julie, Bella, three Ts... all of them, okay? All I need is credible information, not some random blogs please" she said prompting me to burst into laughter. "Hahaha, yeah!" She laughed as well. We then talked about random things before finally departing to our respective rooms. She was sure to make one laugh or at least put a smile on one's face. Ever since I arrived I somehow forgot about my pain. Not that I wasn't missing my parents, I just didn't get to think much about them with Jessica's drama here and there. If there were two Jessicas in the house, I would most likely forget about all my problems in life while trying to fix theirs and laughing at their silly jokes all the time. But unfortunately, there was only one Jessica and I had no intention of becoming the second. While in my room, I laid on the bed and began going through my phone. There were a lot of messages as usual from chats and some random groups. I had exited some of the groups lately but for some unknown reasons, I found myself back in the groups again. Some people just didn't want to let me be, no matter how many times I blocked them they would find ways to add me back to their groups. Some of the groups were educative though, but some were just about affiliate marketing programs, and only a handful of people are known to me in the groups. Talking about groups, I usually spend my time going through my friends' statuses and chatting with them. Sometimes I watch movies on MyTube app or WebFlix. Some of my favorite movies were "Being His", "Solomon's Love Story", "Beautiful Tomorrow", "Replacement CEO", "Billionaire's Baby Mama", "Wendy In Austin Pack" and "Followers In The Garden". I also loved watching love series. I couldn't have enough of "Rollercoaster", "Love Triangle", "Be careful With My Heart", "My Wedding Ring", "End Of The Line", "Tell Me You Love Me", "Crescent Queen", "Kingdom Of Louis", "Surrogate Mother" and "The Mafia Prince". After replying to some of the new messages on GreenApp and about minimizing to MyTube to watch movies, Naomi's call via GreenApp came in. She was my best friend at Marina College and we had a lot of things in common when it comes to likes and dislikes. "Hello, look who's online!" she said laughing as soon as I picked up the call. "You can't call without teasing me, huh?" I said turning to the other side of the bed. "You know I love making you smile, so what's up? Hope you arrived at Cornfield safely?" she asked. "Yeah, I am fine. I am even on the bed right now" I replied. "About taking a nap?" she asked. "No, about watching movies on MyTube," I said. "Oh, and that's the Laura I know. Always watching movies, you can't even give yourself rest" she teased. "Now you are boring me, you know I used to give myself some rest right?" I tried to defend myself. "You asking me? Well, I don't know" she laughed. "Naomi" I called her name. "What?" she smirked at me. "You crazy" I muttered. "No, I'm not!" she protested. That was Naomi Lee, as funny as Jessica but as nice as me. She was currently working in a beverage bottling company at Vinewood. I would have been there with her a long time ago but I didn't just like the job. She lived with her elder brother, Benjamin. He was also a staff at the bottling company. He was even the one that invited her there immediately after our college degree at Marina College. I didn't know how much she was paid but I believe it was reasonable, that's why she stayed there and even encouraged me to come over too. But with a college degree in finance, I would like to work at a microfinance bank instead. Initially, I wanted to work at the Federal Reserve after furthering my education, but after my parents' demise my dream changed. Now all I wanted was to work at a small bank with my mini qualification. I would also be glad if I was able to get a job as treasurer with an organization or non-governmental organization. My mom was once a member of a non-governmental organization that was centered on helping the poor and feeding them. She later resigned due to some personal reasons. She didn't want to continue working at the same organization with her ex-lover, that was the reason why she left the organization.
