CHAPTER 1 UNWORTHY

Marai Volkov arrived at the Martins family home, and the four members just came down for dinner. "I really hope Marai doesn't repeat her past actions," Selina said, appearing rather downcast. "Selina, dear, don't be scared; your mother is here for you. Why will a human being with a good heart do something like that? If she does something similar again, her mother will take care of it! Regina tried to make Selina feel better. Marai was the family’s biological daughter that was exchanged with Selina, and Selina had been taught all her life how to be a Martin, while Marai was brought up in a poor village on the country side. When the Martins family went on vacation, they accidentally discovered Marai, who was the true heiress, and brought her back home. She was rude and loud and didn’t fit into their society standard, constantly disgracing the family, which made every motherly love and guilt Regina had to vanish immediately. Regina's perception of Selina as the ideal daughter overshadowed that of Marai, her own biological daughter. Regina viewed Selina as more of a family member due to her refined and ladylike behavior, while she unfairly labeled Marai an outcast in their society. It wasn't until Marai pushed Selina that Regina acted out and sent her out of the house, only giving her a little allowance each month. Recently, the university was on break, and Marai returned to the Martins mansion. Selina’s eyes lit up as she bowed her head, her white soft neck lowered, and her fair, slender fingers held on to a cup filled with hot water. "Mother, I’m okay; please don’t talk about my sister like that. It is just because of her upbringing that she hasn’t understood our lifestyle yet; with time, she will. She spoke softly. The young master of the family was eating and casually scrolling through his phone when he heard what his sister said. He snorted. “Sister, you are very naïve. Do you really believe that the insolent girl will ever understand our lifestyle? I still remember how he pushed you off the stairs; stop making excuses for her!” Regina frowned at him, although the light in her eyes couldn’t be missed. “What rubbish are you talking about? Don’t stay things like that!” "Mother, don’t be angry at brother; he was only trying to support me,” Selina said, looking pitiful and Regina’s face softened. “Dear child, I was only trying to correct him; don’t feel bad; I won’t scold him anymore, Regina said, gently trying to cheer her up. Then Selina looked to her little brother and said, “Don't talk like that; she is your biological sister. I’m the imposter here, and now that she is back, I feel more comfortable. I want to give everything back to her—the love, money and warmth. After all, she's your biological sister. After she spoke, her expression was gloomy. What a sister! She isn’t worthy to be called Martins or my sister; she has no morals, no decency; she is not meant for our lifestyle; she is truly disgusting! Jordan shouted. That’s enough! Regina scolded. What did I say wrong? Everything I said was the truth, and you know it. She can’t be compared to Selina. Selina has a beautiful taste; she looks elegant; she is part of an elite society; she even fits in; she is very intelligent. What does Marai possess? She exhibits an unfavorable demeanor; she even faced expulsion from the university due to her unattractive appearance. Jordan retorted. I told you to keep quiet! The Martins don’t speak like that. We are polite, Regina said. Although she didn’t think he was wrong, she could not openly agree with him as she was the lady of the prestigious family. Hearing what her little brother said and how her mother tried to make sure she wasn’t feeling bad, Selina smiled warmly. “Fine! I’ll be polite, but I won’t address that local Billy as sister; she is even a thief; she stole from us,” Jordan laughed, instructing a servant to serve him some chicken. Marai walked in and heard what they said, but she ignored them and pushed her luggage in. Marai wore a simple dress and a pair of faded sneakers, as evidenced by their frequent use and washing. She also put on sunglasses from a nameless brand that hung on the bridge of her nose. The dress was simple, but it couldn’t hide her perfectly proportioned curvaceous body or her fair, soft skin. She was tall and extremely beautiful. Jordan was shocked at how beautiful he looked as he stared at her for a moment, then his gaze shifted to her glasses, and he started laughing. “Just to look elite, you have resorted to wearing a nameless brand? You are so local. You don’t fit in with us!” Regina frowned at Jordan, and he stopped talking but kept on mocking her with his face. “Don’t make faces,” Selina said sternly, and Jordan raised his hands to show he wasn’t doing anything. Selina attempted to assist Marai with her luggage, but she encountered immediate resistance. “Don’t worry, I can take care of it,” Marai said coldly. Selina suddenly felt uncomfortable. “Oh, okay,” she said, looking submissive. Regina saw this and became angry instantly. "Selina, come; your favorite dish has been served; don’t bother about her. Let her do what she wants,” Regina said, looking at Marai disdainfully. Selina looked up with tears clouding her vision and said, "Mother, don’t be angry with your sister. It’s all my fault; I shouldn’t have tried to take her luggage without asking her if she was comfortable with it.” Regina felt sympathy for the poor girl after seeing her teary face and reached out to comfort her. “It’s okay, my child; stop torturing yourself. I am not angry, Regina said, gently patting her back. “Selina is so nice to you, and you are just so ungrateful, Regina said, rolling her eyes at Marai. Jordan was furious that Marai made Selina cry. Being protective of his sister. “I can still smell the stink of farm animals on you; you have ruined my appetite.” Jordan! Don’t say that to our sister! Selina gasped. Marai ignored all of them and went to her room, leaving them staring at each other in disbelief. Marai felt uncomfortable as she entered the small room. She frowned. She had already accumulated a lot of money over the years, and she had many properties, so staying in this small room made her feel intolerable. The room was very small and simple; it was basically bad. Marai lay on the bed. She came back for business, so there was no way out; she would endure for now. That evening, the master of the Martins family, Abel Martins, came back and soon dinner was ready. Marai was doing some basic workouts in her little room, and this made her very hungry, so she was eating very fast. Abel stared at her with disgust, his food going sour in his mouth, but Marai didn’t care; she kept on eating. “Eat like a lady! Look at Selina; that is how a lady should eat. Do not eat like a starved beggar!” Abel was loudly fed up with Marai’s table manners. “Oh, Um.. I’m sorry, Marai said with her mouth full and continued stuffing her face with food. Jordan was about to take the last piece of chicken, but Marai was faster than him, so she gulped it quickly and started scrolling through her phone. “No table manners? Using your phone while eating?!” Jordan screamed.
