Scarlett was relentlessly pacing the living-room, biting on her thumb nail. She looked like an animal in a cage, worried and bitter.
Opposite her, Ryke was sitting on the couch, munching on a few baby carrots he’d found in the fridge. He observed Scarlett and to be honest, he pitied her a great deal. She’d told him that her greatest enemies had moved into her family home and Ryke knew that he’d have been in the same state as her if that happened to him. Maybe even worse.
It was tough enough to have been betrayed by your best friend but to watch her take everything from you without being able to do anything about it? That was absolutely terrible. He could understand the fire in her eyes, the hatred…It didn’t suit an innocent face like Scarlett’s but it was justified.
She’d been locked up in her own bubble for over half an hour. Ryke wanted to help her but wasn’t sure she would even hear him if he tried to talk to her. He cleared his throat and decided to try nonetheless:
