Chapter 6
Taylor then noticed that her arm was covered in tiny red rashes. His expression changed dramatically upon realizing that she was allergic to alcohol.
"You crazy woman," Taylor muttered, scooping her up with one arm and rushing her to the hospital.
When Aurora woke up in the hospital, it was two days later. Of course, Taylor wasn't there, but he had sent one of his housekeepers to look after her.
"How is he?" Aurora asked.
The housekeeper knew that she was asking about Taylor. She replied, "Mr. Quinn went back to the office. He's no longer locking himself in his room and drinking excessively."
Aurora recalled something and asked cautiously, "Was it him who brought me to the hospital?"
The housekeeper nodded in affirmation. "Yes, Mr. Quinn brought you in. He even ran several red lights on the way."
Aurora's face was pale, but she couldn't help the slight smile that appeared on her lips. It seemed her method had worked.
After resting for two more days in the hospital, Aurora was discharged. However, she didn't go to Taylor. Instead, she went to the Croft residence.
Aurora remembered that it was Stellan's birthday. Stellan had lost his parents when he was young, and Danica was the only one who had shown him warmth during his childhood. Of course, Aurora didn't have that kind of opportunity, but she could create one for herself.
This time, it felt like even fate was on her side.
When she arrived at the Croft residence, she found that all the household staff had been dismissed, and the usually carefree Stellan was lying in bed, barely conscious.
He was having a high fever.
"Stellan? Stellan?" Aurora nudged him a few times before he regained some awareness. When he saw her, he instinctively grabbed her hand.
"Dani, don't leave me," Stellan pleaded.
Aurora gently reassured him, "I won't leave."
After that, Aurora stayed by his side and cared for him tirelessly. She gave him medicine, got him water, and wiped his sweat. She watched over him for an entire day without a moment's rest.
As night fell, Stellan's fever subsided. He gradually became more lucid.
Around midnight, Aurora turned off the lights. Then, it was as if she was performing a magic trick—she brought in a birthday cake.
"Happy birthday, Stellan."
People tended to be more vulnerable when they were sick. When Stellan looked at the cake and then at Aurora's bloodshot eyes due to staying up all night caring for him, he couldn't bring himself to brush her off coldly like he usually did.
Stellan's parents had died on his birthday. Ever since their passing, no one had celebrated his birthday again. His friends and those who sought to please him knew how temperamental he was and his dislike for birthdays. So, they never mentioned it, fearing they might cross a line.
Therefore, it had been many years since Stellan had celebrated his birthday.
"Why don't you make a wish?" Aurora suggested with a smile.
Although Stellan didn't look at her dismissively like he normally would, he remained silent and said nothing. Aurora didn't mind. She closed her eyes and made the wishes on his behalf.
"My first wish is that Stellan stays safe and healthy, free from illness and worry."
"As for the second wish, I hope Stellan enjoys success and happiness in all his endeavors."
"For my third wish, I pray that Stellan is always loved and in the company of his loved one—he'll never be alone."
After making the wishes, Aurora blew out the candles for him.
Stellan felt a jolt in his heart. Before he could say anything, Aurora suddenly hugged him. "Stellan, happy birthday. May you be safe and sound. Every year from now on, may you live a joyful and blessed life."
Stellan's breathing quickened. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't push away the warmth he felt at that moment.
For the first time in three years, he didn't push her away when she hugged him.
