Despite Charlie’s rather unconventional appearance, which carried a touch of the "shamat" style, Claire remained polite. She extended her hand to shake Charlie’s, responding to his greeting.
“Hello, have you had dinner yet? It’s getting late—shouldn’t you be heading home?”
Charlie nodded slightly, a hint of an awkward smile on his face as he replied, “You’re right, I haven’t had dinner yet. I guess I should head home now.”
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Charlie paused, then leaned back and called out loudly in Wendy’s direction, “Hey, Wendy, can I pick you up tomorrow and take you home?”
Hearing this, Claire’s face instantly turned serious. She quickly grabbed Charlie’s hand and practically dragged him toward the door, her actions seeming a bit urgent.
Meanwhile, Wendy felt a bit confused. She turned her head, trying to locate the source of that shout, but saw no one. It made her wonder if she had imagined it.
