She was well aware of her situation—simply put, the Grayson family held her in contempt. Aside from Edward, who treated her with kindness and respect, her in-laws were only superficially cordial.
She found it frustrating. It felt like she was living in a cage, lacking freedom. Once she was financially stable, she planned to move out immediately.
As they prepared for bed that night, Melanie couldn't help but express her gratitude to Edward. "I appreciate everything you've done for me. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have anyone supporting me."
"Don't overthink it. The family is just worried about you. I've already arranged for someone to come by tomorrow. A woman will accompany you to the neighboring city," he said, referring to the phone call he had made earlier.
