Edward chose to ignore Gabrielle, bending down to scoop up Nellie and murmuring soothing words to her before leading Melanie into the office building. As they walked in, Melanie couldn't help but cast a glance back at Gabrielle. Seeing the latter standing there in stunned silence, a flicker of sympathy welled up inside her. She thought it must be painful to be in love with a man who didn't belong to oneself. Gabrielle seemed decent, and it was a shame for her to be caught up in such feelings. If Edward had any affection for Gabrielle, Melanie might have considered stepping aside. After all, she wouldn't want to ruin someone else's happiness for her own selfish desires. But it was clear that Edward had no romantic interest in Gabrielle, so it seemed she was simply deluding herself. On their way through the building, Edward encountered several familiar faces, exchanging friendly greetings as they went. The curious glances directed at Melanie revealed a mix of intrigue and scrutin
