It was true that Wendy missed Yvan, but what she wanted was for him to come back.
He'd been sent to Oakfen, a place so godforsaken even the birds stayed away. Danger lurked everywhere, and gunfire in the middle of the night was just part of the background noise. There was barely enough food to eat or clothes to wear.
Wendy had long since grown accustomed to a life of comfort in the Lawson residence. There was no way she could handle hardship now.
"I won't go!" she shrieked.
Abigail also raised her voice. "I won't allow it."
"I've already made the arrangements."
Shane had never intended to ask for her permission. He was here to have Wendy taken away, not to consult Abigail or Wendy on the matter.
"Take her away," he ordered the bodyguards.
The bodyguards moved swiftly and ignored Abigail's protests as they forcibly dragged Wendy away. Wendy thrashed like a helpless chick, but in the bodyguards' iron grip, her struggles were completely futile.
