"Shane..." Wendy turned to him, her voice choked up as tears slipped down her cheeks. Shane's gaze lingered on the Smiths as they disappeared into the distance, his expression unreadable. "I'll help you," he said, his tone firm. Nina didn't stand until the crowd had thinned. Her legs, numb from crouching too long, tingled with sharp pins and needles. She stumbled, nearly falling, but there was no time to waste. Limping, she hurried to her room. Luckily, she didn't run into anyone. Once in her room, Nina collapsed onto the bed, her breath unsteady. She carefully pulled out the travel documents Yvan had given her and walked back and forth in the small space. Yet, nowhere felt secure enough to hide them. Her room never felt safe with the maids constantly coming and going, let alone with Shane. She could never fool him. His piercing gaze seemed to see right through her, and she feared that even the smallest slipup would give her away. Nina still felt uneasy about keeping the travel do
