“Mr. Ford, please, let me explain!”
Nathaniel didn’t give her the chance. He grabbed her wrist firmly, his expression dark and stormy, and dragged her out of the room without another word.
Celeste struggled, trying to pull free, but she was still weak—no match for his strength.
His grip was unyielding, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. As they passed through the hallway, Felix happened to walk by.
He stopped in his tracks, eyes wide, but didn’t dare say a word.
He knew better than to get involved when Mr. Ford was in this kind of mood.
What could Mrs. Ford have done to upset him this much? Felix wondered, stepping aside in silence.
The door to the room slammed shut behind them with a sharp bang.
Now alone, the silence in the room was deafening.
Still reeling from the whirlwind of emotions, Celeste sighed and sat on the bed's edge. She looked up at Nathaniel, who was still standing there, arms crossed, his face carved out of stone.
