CHAPTER 66: FIRE ME
"Christian is with the other kids," Cecilia said as they walked toward the daycare, her arms cradling the tiny, sleeping baby. "But since you insisted on coming, you can meet him now."
Paul leaned closer, his gaze softening, when he saw the baby nestled in Cecilia's arms. "He's a cute little guy," Paul murmured, genuinely charmed. He brushed a finger against the baby's tiny hand, and Cecilia could see his smile, full of admiration.
She stiffened. "Yeah, I guess." She didn't like how this was playing out. The tension between them hadn't eased, and she wasn't ready for this forced interaction.
Paul followed her out of the daycare, and the car ride back to the office was quiet, too quiet. The weight of their last conversation hung over them like a storm cloud. When they stopped at a red light, Paul sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Cecilia, I know I messed up. I'm trying to apologize."
