Chapter 8 Out of My Way

The GPS navigation led me to Greenwood Royal Club. I ran into Linda the moment I got out of the car. How unlucky. She was probably here to deliver some documents. She was panting from running in the summer heat, and her sweat had ruined her makeup. She looked terrible. Meanwhile, I was in a sexy red slip dress with my hair let down. My skin was also clear and free of acne. My dress flowed with the wind, which made me look ethereal. She, on the other hand, was sweaty and gross. "You again? Do you think Mr. Stafford will like you if you dress like this? I'm telling you, Mr. Stafford will be mine sooner or later!" Then, Linda put her hands on her hips and snarled. My, my. She was declaring war on me. Unfortunately, I couldn't take her seriously at all. "Aunt Linda, know your place and please get out of my way." I smiled at her with the file in my hand. "Why, you…" Linda was so angry she couldn't speak. When we met at Evan's villa, I didn't fight back against her as a show of respect. But since she wouldn't back off, I had no reason not to fight back now. When I stepped forward to enter the club, Lina ran up to me again. But before she could stop me, the elevator in front of us opened. Dressed in a black suit, Xavier waved at me from inside the elevator. "Julia, here." Xavier was my dad's student. He was only helping me out for my dad's sake. On the other hand, Linda was only a secretary and Xavier's subordinate in Stafford Group. When Xavier called out to me, Linda immediately hid her angry expression and suppressed her fury. She didn't have the guts to make things difficult for me in front of him. I bumped into Linda's shoulder when I passed her by and said, "You were right just now. Evan will be mine sooner or later. Just you wait." Upon hearing what I said, Linda gnashed her teeth in anger, but she didn't dare to say anything back. I beamed and walked over to Xavier. "Xavier, I'll remember the favor you did for me this time. Thank you for your help." I bowed to express my gratitude. Being Evan's assistant, Xavier's demeanor and tone resembled Evan's. He said coldly, "This is the only time I'll ever do something like this. If Mr. Stafford finds out about this, he'll be livid." "Okay. I got it!" I saluted him cheerfully. Then, Xavier led me to Evan's private lounge and told me before leaving, "Mr. Stafford's still working, so wait here." "Alright." I sized up the monochromatic lounge. It seemed that he rarely came here. The room barely looked lived in and seemed more like a hotel room. I snooped around before sitting on the black leather couch. The color made my figure look even better. Evan would probably like it. While daydreaming, I started nodding off. Perhaps it was because I had barely slept when I was busy cramming for my college entrance exams, but it was extremely difficult for me to wake up on time during the last two weeks. I was on a mission today, so I couldn't let myself fall asleep. I slapped my cheeks to wake myself up. The sun set as I waited, but Evan was still working. Surprisingly, there was a fully stocked wine cabinet behind the bookshelves. I chose a decently aged bottle of wine. At first, I was just going to drink a glass or two to pass the time, but the wine tasted so good that before I knew it, I had drunk half of it. When the alcohol kicked in, I couldn't stop myself and finished the rest of the bottle. The good news was that I was no longer sleepy, but the bad news was that I was now drunk. My face was flushed red, and my confidence had grown. I kicked off my shoes and climbed up to stand on the coffee table with my bare feet. Then, I closed my eyes and started dancing. However, I only managed two steps before I slipped with a yelp. Just when I was about to land harshly on the floor, I felt a tight grip around my waist, and the room started spinning. When I finally returned to my senses, Evan was right in front of me. My arms were hung around his neck, and my legs were tightly wrapped around his waist.
