Chapter 1 The Return of the War God
"Are you my dad?"
"Are you in heaven?"
"Mom said you're dead? She won't let me contact you?"
"I stole Mom's phone."
"Are you doing well in heaven? Is anyone bullying you? Earth is not fun at all; many people bully me and say I'm a fatherless wild child."
"By the way, Mom is getting married again. I really won't have a dad in the future. Can you take me to heaven?"
...
Greafank Bus Station!
A tall and upright figure, clad in a black windbreaker and sporting sunglasses, lingered in the airport corner, absorbed in a phone message he had just received.
He clenched his five fingers, and there was a surge of excitement in his heart. At this moment, his phone rang, and he pressed the answer button: "Have you found out?"
"Lord, the matter has been thoroughly examined. The young woman who rescued you six years ago goes by the name Leila Harper. She is the eldest daughter of Theo Harper, the third son of the esteemed Master Harper from the Harper family in Greafank. Six years ago, after experiencing a loss of innocence, she grappled with thoughts of suicide but was thankfully intervened by someone."
Upon hearing this, the man tightly held his phone, his face darkening. Although it was Summer, the temperature suddenly dropped, and those around him couldn't help but shiver, a chill enveloping them from head to toe.
His name was Walter Wells, and he hailed from the Wells family in Vetrad!
Six years ago, a conspiracy unfurled against him within the Wells family. With the shield of loyal subordinates, he managed to escape, yet he fell victim to poisoning. Drained and weary, he crumpled in Greafank Park, where a caring girl took him in, tending to him with utmost attentiveness.
Danger followed. As the poison took effect, he forcibly took the girl's virginity without explanation. Pursued by enemies, critically injured, and on the brink of death, he fell into the rushing river. Only through this did he recover his life.
He ended up abroad, rescued by soldiers from the Dragon Shrine on a mission.
Six years later, he went from an unknown soldier to the Dragon Lord of the Dragon Shrine!
He once single-handedly faced ten thousand elite enemy troops and slew them all!
He once infiltrated the enemy's ranks alone, beheading the enemy's commander.
He was the renowned Lord of the Dragon Shrine abroad!
He was the fearsome god of death that made enemies tremble.
Moreover, he was the youngest general in Draconia's history and a holder of the Draconia Medal!
Now, with stability abroad, he returned to Greafank to repay the debt of gratitude from years past.
"I want all the information on Leila, everything!"
"My Lord, I have forwarded Leila's information to you, but it would be prudent for you to prepare beforehand."
Walter hung up the phone, opened his email, and received a file.
Leila: A 26-year-old woman hailing from the esteemed Harper family in Greafank, known for her exceptional talents. Six years ago, during her junior year, she stumbled upon a severely injured man on her way back to school. Compassionately, she brought him home to nurse him back to health, only to become the target of persecution. Following a tragic loss of innocence, the antagonist mysteriously vanished. Facing a life without dignity, Leila was rescued from the brink of suicide and subjected to house arrest, becoming a mockery in Greafank.
One month later!
The George family, a less prominent entity in Greafank, sought the services of the more reputable Harper family, agreeing to a substantial sum for their assistance. In a strategic move, the Harper family utilized Leila as a bargaining chip to seal the deal. However, on the day of the engagement, a public spectacle unfolded as Leila, in a twist of fate, publicly vomited. A subsequent diagnosis revealed her pregnancy, leading the George family to publicly break off the engagement. This turn of events transformed Leila into the center of ridicule, making her the most significant joke in all of Greafank.
Later, despite numerous obstacles, Leila gave birth to twins!
A boy and a girl!
Snap!
Walter clenched his fist, "Leila, I owe you, and I, Walter, will spend the rest of my life repaying you!"
He made up his mind, took steps, and approached an unlicensed black business car in the corner.
The man driving, wearing a black vest and a duckbill cap, respectfully asked as Walter got in, "Lord, today is the day of Leila's engagement ceremony to Ernie Stewart of the Stewart family."
Walter raised an eyebrow: "What's going on?"
"Lord, within the context of Greafank, the Harper family holds a status deemed as second-rate. Leila, once acclaimed as a talented individual within the Harper family, has, unfortunately, encountered a series of persistent misfortunes in recent years, turning her into the object of ridicule throughout Greafank. Luis, a member of the Harper family, is now eager and determined to secure a settlement for Leila. Meanwhile, Ernie, known for his indulgent tendencies, belongs to the Stewart family, another second-rate household. In a strategic move driven by business considerations, the Harper family is inclined to facilitate a marriage between Leila and Ernie."
Walter put down his phone: "Which hotel?"
"Lord, at the Jade Majesty Hotel. And..." The man paused in his speech. "I just received the news. When you were chased to Greafank, it was the Stewart family who secretly helped the Wells family. They revealed your whereabouts and drugged you, then threw you into the rushing river."
Stewart family?
Walter lightly exhaled: "Go to the Jade Majesty Hotel!"
Jade Majesty Hotel was abuzz with activities!
Tonight was exceptionally lively!
Countless opulent cars convened early, with guests arriving and departing in a flurry of activity. Within the hotel dressing room, Leila gazed at her reflection in the mirror, a self-mocking smile playing on her lips. "I, Leila, won't surrender so easily," she affirmed.
As she stood up, two little ones rushed into her arms.
A boy and a girl!
The boy was only five years old, but between his dark eyes, there was a hint of maturity not befitting his age. "Mom, if you don't want to get married, then don't. Riley will protect you."
The girl, with a ponytail, blinked her watery eyes. "Mom, is Dad really dead?"
"Sister, we don't have a dad!" The boy said firmly.
The little girl pouted, looking especially aggrieved. Leila rubbed the heads of the two children, "You two have to be good later. Mom has things to take care of. You'll follow Auntie Marie later."
"Not me!" Riley Harper held onto Leila's small hand, "Mom, I want to be with you. If that old man dares to bully you, watch how I deal with him."
"And me too, Mom." Quinn Harper waved her fists, her little face turning red, looking exceptionally lovely.
Leila looked at her two children in front of her, feeling her heart ache.
"Are you done? Your son-in-law can't wait any longer." Nicole Cooke walked in, grumbling.
Quinn and Riley instinctively shouted, "Grandma!"
Nicole pushed Riley and Quinn away with some disgust, "Two unlucky brats, roll as far as you can. Tonight is your mom's wedding. If you dare to cause trouble, I'll tear your mouths apart when I get back."
Leila quickly stood in front of the two children, "Mom, what are you doing?"
Nicole swiftly adjusted her tone, saying, "Leila, Mr. Stewart holds considerable status and influence, despite his age. The advantage of his maturity is that he knows how to appreciate and value individuals. Consider your own situation—unmarried, pregnant with twins. Having someone genuinely interested in you is quite noteworthy."
"Why are you still picking on things now?"
"Do you still have feelings for that rapist?"
"Back then, you kindly saved him as a fugitive, and he treated you like this? Making you live in such misery."
Nicole grumbled, "But it doesn't matter. Now, Mr. Stewart is willing to take the blame. This is the best outcome for you. Don't underestimate this opportunity. Do you know that as long as you are with Mr. Stewart, your father can get a ten million business contract?"
"By then, your father won't have to bow to others in the family anymore."
Nicole's words were full of manipulation. Riley gritted his teeth, "Grandma, my mom doesn't want to marry that fat guy."
"Shut up, you wild child. Who is your grandma? I don't have a grandson like you. If it weren't for your mom, I would've slapped you to death."
Leila stood in front of Nicole, "Mom, why are you arguing with a child? I'll marry, alright?"
"Good, good!" Nicole was delighted. "As long as you marry Ernie, Quinn's illness can be treated. Isn't that great?"
Quinn?
Illness!
Leila clenched her fists, and a tear fell. It was the only motivation that kept her alive.
Nicole couldn't be bothered to look at her. "Leila, at this point, you can't resist anymore. The guests outside are already here. Get ready and come out."
She slammed the door shut, leaving the room.
Inside the room.
Leila finally couldn't hold back, squatting down. Riley and Quinn threw themselves into Nicole's arms. Quinn cried, "Mom, don't cry. I'm not in pain, I'm not sick. Mom, don't marry. Let's go find Dad. Quinn just sent a message to Dad with Mom's phone, and Dad said he'll be here soon!"
"What?"
Leila was stunned, "Quinn, what are you talking about?"
Quinn carefully took out the phone and handed it to Leila. Leila looked at the phone screen, and her tears no longer held back.
On the phone...
There were only three words —
"Wait for me!"
