Chapter 40
"Sister, I was a little thirsty and was about to pour a glass of red wine. I happened to see you. Shall we have a drink together?"
Catherina's voice was smooth as she handed the glass of red wine to Eleanor.
Eleanor regarded the glass with an enigmatic smile, her gaze unwavering as she studied Catherina. She didn’t reach out to take it, only stared, her smile never faltering.
Catherina felt a flicker of panic under her scrutiny. "She doesn't know anything!" she reassured herself. It was impossible; she had been so careful. Regaining her composure, she repeated, "Sister, don't you want to have a drink with me?" Her tone was pitiful, almost pleading.
Eleanor's smile widened. "Of course not. I'm just a little hungry. Do you want something to eat? Or I'll eat and drink with my sister."
"Catherina, since you want to play, I'll play with you."
Catherina's heart leapt with relief. She placed the glass of red wine in front of Eleanor and sat beside her.
