Chapter 10
When the Professor brought her to Class A - Ordinary Class, the entire class was curious about the new student. Eleanor's background had been the talk of the University in the past few days.
As the eldest daughter of the Hampton family, Eleanor had been plucked from a mountain village and thrust into a world she didn't recognize. It didn't take long to figure out who was spreading the rumors.
The Professor felt a pang of sympathy. It was the first time she had encountered a student with such a disadvantaged background. She wanted to cry, but no tears came.
Eleanor stood at the front of the class with a calm expression. She scribbled "Eleanor" on the blackboard, ignoring the astonished looks from the Professor and her classmates, then found a random seat and sat down.
"It seems she's not illiterate. She knows how to write her name."
"Ha ha ha, her handwriting is quite impressive. It's like watching a dragon and phoenix dance across the page."
"Hey, don't you think she's really pretty? Her eyes are so bright and big."
"Don't flatter her. She's just a country girl. Isn't she a bit rude?"
"Yeah, you're right."
The sound of something breaking filled the classroom, rising and falling. Yet the protagonist of the gossip seemed unfazed, staring blankly at her desk mate's sleeping face.
"Oh my goodness! Isn't this James Anderson?"
Eleanor was stunned. She would never mistake him for anyone else. This was a young version of James! But why was James in this ordinary class?
In her previous life, Eleanor knew of James because he was a public figure. He was incredibly intelligent and excelled at solving puzzles and mysteries that stumped others. Eleanor's eyes lit up at the thought.
"If I build a good relationship with him now, I can definitely use him to my advantage in the future."
A classmate noticed Eleanor staring at James and assumed she was curious. He whispered to her,
"Hey, you probably don't know this since you're new here, but James loves to sleep. Don't wake him up, or he'll get mad. That's why he's never had a desk mate. You should consider changing your seat."
Eleanor didn't put on airs in response to her classmate's well-intentioned advice. She smiled and said softly,
"Thank you, but I'll be fine."
She couldn't pass up the opportunity to befriend such a valuable asset. The student blushed when he saw Eleanor's smile.
"Wow, she's like a fairy."
"Quiet down! What are you talking about? Take out your textbook and get ready for class!"
