Chapter 3
Antoinette Yun nodded slowly, as if she was very unhappy.
She lowered her eyes, but Antoinette spotted the jealous look that flashed in Alexandra's eyes.
"He's too much! How can he treat you this way? Don't worry, I won't let this go.”
Alexandra looked at her with somber eyes. "Maybe we can get him to agree to a divorce."
Antoinette Yun raised her eyebrows, feigning interest.
"What do you suggest?"
"Didn't he force you last night? Just accuse him of marital rape in front of everyone. That will surely make him lose face and agree to divorce you."
Antoinette looked at her quietly.
Listening to these words, almost exactly the same words her sister had said to her before, she realized how stupid she’d been.
Now it sounded immature and selfish. Just for agreeing to do that, she kind of deserved what happened to her. No morally upright person--or any person in their right mind, for that matter--would agree to that.
Looking back, if she had really been a rape victim, she should have gone through the proper channels, rather than selfishly use her Grandfather’s birthday to force him to divorce her.
And now she was pretty sure it wasn’t even rape. Not even marital rape. Last night, though he was a bit rough with her, she was just happy to see him. She didn’t hate him at all like she had before.
She smiled slightly. "Okay."
Alexandra Yun breathed a sigh of relief.
"You should have a glass of wine first, otherwise you might get stage fright."
Alexandra had a glass of wine in her hand.
Antoinette Yun remembered that this had been spiked in her other timeline, and it was exactly this drugged wine that had sent her down the point of no return.
Now that she’d been given another chance, she certainly won't drink it anymore.
She smiled. "But I haven't eaten yet. I get stomachache when I drink on an empty stomach. Why don't you bring me a snack?"
Alexandra Yun hesitated.
Although she was sure that Antoinette didn't know that she had added something to this glass of wine, she was still worried.
She tried to think of something, but Antoinette Yun pouted arrogantly.
"I won't drink if I don't eat. Anyway, I don't need alcohol to be courageous!"
Alexandra Yun panicked and quickly changed her words, "Okay, fine, I'll get you a snack. Wait here."
She put down the wine glass and hurried to the dining area.
Antoinette Yun looked at her as she left. Her eyes turned slightly, and her eyes fell on Regine Lin who was not far away.
Regine Lin, Alexandra Yun’s mother, was her mother Anastasia Ye’s good friend. After Anastasia died, she had seduced her husband in an effort to sieze her family property. She may have played a hand in her mother’s death, though she wasn’t sure.
Her stepmother had a very questionable character, that she was sure of.
In that case, let's start with you!
Antoinette Yun casually walked to her, and when no one was paying attention, swapped her wine glass with the one Alexandra had spiked .
She took out a small packet of white powder from the inner lining of her bag, tore a hole and poured it all into the glass of wine, and then walked back casually.
Alexandra returned with a plate of leftover snacks that others had eaten.
"Toni, I don't know what you want to eat, so I took some of everything. Here, eat."
Antoinette Yun glanced coldly, "No, I don't like to eat these, but I’ll drink my wine."
After speaking, she drank the glass of wine in one go.
Alexandra Yun was annoyed that she’d sent her to get snacks and won’t even touch it, but as long as she drank the wine, she was satisfied.
So she calmed her her face and rolled her eyes, "Fine, whatever you want. Don't forget what you need to do, you can’t chicken out okay?"
Antoinette didn’t say anything, but made a gesture, an ambiguous little wave.
Soon, the host announced the start of the banquet.
Mr. Ye loved parties. Every year on his birthday, he invites many celebrities. Also, guests who were good at music and dance were always invited to perform on stage. Today, he had arranged for a piano solo for Antoinette Yun.
Antoinette used to hate this kind of thing.
Although she plays the piano very well, she hates being called up front to perform in front of her elders. She always feels like a gorilla being watched in a zoo.
But she didn't realize until he was dying that her grandpa loved her and was very proud of her. He appreciated her talent and wanted to see her shine on stage.
The host quickly called her name.
Antoinette walked onto the stage. She was wearing an elegant evening gown today, and the beaded lace neckline covered her neck, but it did not lessen her glamour in the slightest.
It wasn’t the same one she had worn before. In these parties, she used to always wear simple black dresses, and they always suited her.
Before she’d been given this second chance, in this same party, she had worn dark, almost goth-type makeup and paired it with a vintage, loose off-white dress that almost looked like a costume.
She had really wanted to make a scene. In their society, white was associated with death, and wearing white in festive occasions such as these was considered inappropriate.
But now, she’d chosen a gown with bright red and gold hues on a black base. The red and gold was reminiscent of a traditional Chinese wedding dress. The beautiful lace swan neck was bright and slowly faded into black around the chest, in a beautiful gradient dotted by gold beads. The skirt was long and cut to fit her perfectly. It was also in red, but the beads were darker.
