The officers sent reinforcement by heading to the abandoned factory in the opposite direction.
Soon, I could see the abandoned factory. The yard was empty and desolate, and the roof of the factory was old and rusty. Except for the occasional howl of the wind, there was no other sound to be heard.
Madison and I looked at each other and nodded at the same time.
"Keep an eye out for an ambush," I told her, my voice low.
Madison nodded her understanding and slowly pushed the door open.
A high-pitched creak pierced the air as the door opened, the noise ricocheting inside the huge yet empty building of the factory.
I held my breath as I glanced around warily. All of a sudden, I heard the sound of rushed footsteps that became increasingly loud.
Every muscle in my body tensed, and I stared ahead in the direction where the sound came from.
