"Giving yourself an early start?" Mr. Mitchell repeated what I had said, and an approving look flashed in his eyes. "It's rare for a young person to be that self-aware."
He stood up and walked slowly over to the window. He gazed into the distance, as if he were reminiscing about something.
"Do you know something, Evelyn? I was once like you when I was young. I had dreams and passion, and I wanted to make something of myself." There was a hint of weariness and emotion in Mr. Mitchell's voice.
"However, time catches up to us all. Now, there are many things I want to do, but I no longer have the strength to do so. I'm only hoping to find young people with the potential to carry on my legacy."
I stood quietly beside him, and I felt strangely touched as I listened to him. I knew that this opportunity was probably the closest I had ever been to success.
"Don't worry, Mr. Mitchell. I'll work hard," I said somberly. "Not just for myself, but for your hopes."
