Chapter 184
I called Lyla back immediately.
When the call was connected, I heard Lyla's tearful and trembling voice on the phone. "Eve, why aren't you at home? Where are you? Why is there so much noise over there? Don't do anything stupid. Eve, please come home. Don't scare me like this."
I tried to make myself sound calm. I explained, "I was hungry, so I went out to get something. I didn't hear your calls because I put my phone on silent. I'll be back soon."
After hanging up the phone, I hailed a cab.
When I arrived at my apartment building, I saw Lyla, Antoine, and Liam waiting for me.
As soon as Lyla saw me, she rushed over to me and said, "Eve, you scared me!"
I gently patted her back and comforted her, "I'm not a child. I just went out for a meal. There's nothing to be afraid of."
Lyla simply kept crying. She didn't seem to hear what I said. After a long while, she said tearfully, "The police called me this morning and said they would handle this as a burglary, so I thought you—"
