Chapter 9 Her Phone's Been Hacked
I didn't hesitate to reject Jeremiah outright. "No. Elsa and I don't get along. Seeing me will just ruin her appetite, and seeing her makes me nauseous."
Before he could respond, I added, "When are you free? Let's finalize the divorce as soon as we can. Once we're divorced, Elsa will probably make a miraculous recovery."
Jeremiah sounded impatient as he snapped, "You're making no sense. What does our divorce have to do with Elsa? And as I said, the divorce—"
I sighed, cutting him off. "Forget it. I don't have time to listen to your nonsense. Meet me at the courthouse next Monday at 10:00 am. Don't be late."
With that, I hung up.
He called again, but I blocked his number. I figured I'd unblock him on the day of the divorce.
After rolling down my pants, I braved the pain and climbed upstairs to organize the stuff I had brought. The villa was cleaned monthly by a professional cleaning service, so it was in decent shape and didn't require much effort from me.
I avoided my injury while taking a quick shower. After collapsing onto the bed, I picked up my phone and typed out a short text. "I, Jane Brown, have decided to return to work!"
This time, I'd never let go of the things I loved for anyone.
Once I sent the text in the LunaGlo group chat, I was bombarded with responses.
"Jane, is it true that you're coming back? I'm not dreaming, am I?"
"You're seriously leaving your husband to return to work? We couldn't convince you no matter how hard we tried back then. What changed your mind?"
"Her phone's been hacked, hasn't it?"
Reading their messages, I couldn't help but laugh.
LunaGlo was a jewelry brand I co-founded with several like-minded friends from college. It gained international recognition in just three years. I was an internationally renowned designer before leaving the studio for Jeremiah.
Though my friends had teased me in the group chat about giving up my career for Jeremiah, I had never been fazed by it.
It was only normal that they were shocked by the sudden announcement of my return.
"I wasn't hacked. It's me!" I initiated a video call to tell them about my decision to divorce Jeremiah.
Levi Swift fumed with indignation. "You should've divorced that scumbag ages ago. I told you he wasn't good enough for you. Oh, right, LunaGlo is making preparations to enter the domestic market, and every major jewelry brand is fighting to collaborate with us.
"You couldn't have made your comeback at a better time. Since you're the most familiar with the domestic jewelry market, we'll need your help."
Our original goal had been to establish LunaGlo in the world of foreign luxury jewelry brands before conquering the domestic market. As a result, most of the team had been stationed abroad for years.
Now that we were closer to achieving that goal and I was returning at such an important time, it felt like everything was falling into place. The thought of continuing my beloved career while contributing to our shared goal filled me with joy.
I agreed without hesitation, saying, "I won't back out this time. All of you can relax now that I'm here to handle the domestic market. What stage is the planning at?" I had to catch up and gain a thorough understanding to better contribute to the strategy.
Lexi responded, "There's too much to explain right now. I'm returning to Caldera soon, so let's discuss in detail when we meet."
"Sounds good!"
