Chapter 17 Terminating the Partnership
I rarely cried in front of my parents. Seeing how I was breaking down, they assumed I had suffered greatly.
Mom gave me gentle pats on the back and uttered in a voice full of concern, "Don't cry, Jae. Tell me what happened. I'll make sure to stand up for you."
Dad gripped my shoulder. He sounded mad as he asked, "Did Jeremiah pick on you? I'll teach him a lesson right now!"
Mom shot him a glare. "Calm down! Listen to Jae explain. Stop acting so impulsively!"
"How can I stay calm when she's this hurt?"
They were bickering as always, and that was a relief to hear.
I sniffled and told them about the awful things Jeremiah had recently done and my plan to divorce him. Their expressions darkened after they listened to everything I had to say.
