Chapter 379
Leaving the changing room, Mayra tossed the bag of medicine into the trash can. It wasn't that she wanted to put William's kind gesture to waste. She just didn't trust anyone's unsolicited goodwill.
When she reassembled her phone, notifications flooded her phone, but none from the familiar numbers she had hoped for.
It seemed that she had been imagining things—there was no way they'd invite her to join their family reunion. Instead of feeling disappointed, she felt calm and unbothered.
She spent most of the afternoon in the physics classroom, only leaving her seat for bathroom breaks and water.
When the day ended early at 5:30 p.m., she wasn't in the mood to head back home so soon. Hence, she headed to the library.
For the next week, Mayra followed a similar routine. She stayed at school until 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. before returning to the Barlow mansion. Sometimes, she would return as late as 10:30 p.m.
