Chapter 5
"Liam Chu! Take my life! I will give you my heart!"
The quiet ward suddenly fills with a burst of heart-splitting scream.
The two nurses gossiping outside the corridor panics and rush into the room.
Jane goes mad in a frenzy again. She frantically struggles as another needle tries to enter her arm, the nurses fail.
"Hold her down!" The two nurses could not overpower her and turns to call the male nurses.
Jane tries to rid herself of her confinements but her head bumps into the bed’s metal frame.
Dong!
A stream of blood drips from her skull, she loses vision and finally faints. Before closing her eyes, she is reminded how nice life would be if she had never met Liam.
…
Jane floats in the dark. Deep in a trance, she returns to two years ago.
"That little weasel! Frank Jiang's treachery ruined our business and nearly ruined our family! If you want to marry Jane, get out of the Chu family!"
In the villa hall, Liam’s father slaps him in the face and denounces him in public.
"Father, I have an engagement with Jane. Her father may have broken his promise, but I won't."
"Well, if you must marry her, you will not inherit the hospital! And you will no longer be my son!"
With a stoic demeanor, he faces the Chu family, "I see."
Jane is very nervous but his face bears no expression as he wipes the blood from his mouth.
Liam grabs Jane by the hand and they walk out of the hall without looking back.
Behind him, his father continues to curse abuses while her mother cries.
He never looks back.
Outside, Liam directly pulls Jane into torrential rain.
After walking for a while, he suddenly turns around and holds her in his arms, as if rubbing her into his body.
"Jane Jiang, I have nothing in this world, nothing but you."
"You won't betray me, will you?"
Jane is tightly held as the cold rain pours on her face.
She was too strangled to answer him.
His kiss falls on her cold forehead and in a soft voice he commands, "Marry me, tomorrow."
…
"No, I will never betray you. My heart is yours. Believe me..." Jane’s eyes close as she murmurs the words and tears stream down together with the rain and the darkness.
She is still tied in the dark.
Her hands and feet were bound to the bed and her consciousness was suppressed with medications.
After hearing her murmurings, a man steps out of the room.
"President Chu?" The nurse at the station asks in a low voice, "do you want me to delete the record again for tonight?"
"Delete it. There's no need for her to know anything."
The nurse in charge of 507 has seen the president visit Jane late at night. Most nights, he would stay for quite a while.
She would see him through the cracks of the door, watching Jane’s face, and he would sit there motionless until dawn.
However, at daybreak, the president’s demeanor changes.
These things, the nurse dare not talk with anyone, she does not want to be fired.
As far as she can tell, a love-hate entanglement is best reserved for the people involved.
…
Liam sits on the side of her bed, looking at her face in the dark.
Since the day she was admitted, he watches her haggard little frame getting paler and paler, and his heart has been filled with a needle-like pain ever since.
But the pain was fleeting, nothing that would break his frame. Compared to the pain this woman brought him, it is nothing. Less than one-tenth of what he has experienced. The Chu family was destroyed in a blink of an eye. There was no corpse to be found, not even the ashes of her mother could be found.
And it's all because he loved her. He gave up everything for her, but she betrayed him in his most difficult time and sent him to hell.
“How could I have fallen in love with a stupid fucking bitch!”
Liam gradually spreads out his cold cruel hand and places it on Jane’s neck.
“The more you move, the tighter I squeeze!”
“You must repay the blood debt of the Chu family!”
