"You're such a thoughtful kid, but I told you that you don't need to make me breakfast. Your hands aren't meant for chores. Your performances are already tough enough on your fingers!" she said. Her gentle complaints were more comforting than any formal compliments.
"It's only for today. I'm happy to see you like it," I replied honestly. I wasn't doing this to please her. I was doing this out of guilt.
After my performance, Mrs. Foster Senior chatted with me for a while. Just as I was about to leave, I saw Sarah walk in, smiling widely.
