Samuel had always handled Yvette with extreme care, as if she were fragile, never once raising his voice or speaking harshly to her.
I watched him approach her to soothe her. I quietly stood up and left the monitoring room when he wasn't looking.
Not long after, Douglas came out. Upon seeing me, he walked over and spoke softly. "Ms. Sutton, you and Mr. Samuel..."
"I'm just a friend of Yvette's," I answered, trying to clear his suspicions.
"I see... Ms. Sutton, you look quite young," Douglas said, awkwardly laughing.
It seemed like he misunderstood and thought that Yvette and I were classmates.
I had no intention of correcting him. As long as he didn't assume anything about my relationship with Samuel, he wouldn't have any reason to share it with Gideon.
After Douglas left, I waited by the elevator. But before it arrived, someone grabbed my wrist.
"I told you to wait. Why did you leave without saying anything?"
