I must have been mistaken. Gideon probably just felt sorry for guide dogs and the hardships they faced.
In my past life, situations like this weren't new to me. Samuel often insisted I meet him and Yvette, leaving me no choice but to bring Lucky along.
While some were considerate of my blindness, others weren't shy about making cutting remarks.
"A blind person with a dog on the subway? What if the dog bites someone?" one had sneered.
Worse, a few people took advantage of my inability to see and caused trouble. Lucky bit a few of them, and in the end, Samuel had to clean up the mess by paying for damages.
Some were crueler. They'd step on Lucky, knowing I wouldn't notice. Only after getting off the subway and realizing Lucky was limping did I piece together what had happened.
I was devastated and stopped taking it out altogether. But Samuel turned it into a threat, saying he'd give away my "useless" dog.
