Chapter 17
I poked my head out and saw Henry’s irritated expression, then said quietly, “I’m sorry. I’m afraid of thunder.”
“What does it have to do with me?!” Henry had no pity for me and snatched the quilt back.
“Boom!” The thunder was deafening. I quickly burrowed into Henry’s arms. Our divorce would have to wait. The most pressing matter at hand was overcoming my fear of thunder.
Henry froze, repulsed by my proximity.
No man would want to sleep with a skeleton on such a stormy night. Even I thought I was overly bony.
Henry pried my fingers from his shirt, looking irritated. “Don’t touch me!”
“Then don’t steal my quilt.” I pretended to be calm while hiding my embarrassment and bitterness.
Henry kicked the quilt to me and got out of bed to get another quilt so he could sleep on the floor.
I wrapped myself in the quilt like a burrito and looked down at Henry on the floor. I was picturing him and Laurel together in the future in great detail. If Laurel was afraid of thunder, I was sure he
