Learn to pamper herself
A while later, Eleanor returned to the house and went to her room. She had hoped going on a little walk would make her feel better, but she was still upset.
How much longer was she going to take such treatment from Thomas? She wished she was in the position to divorce him right away. His behaviour towards her was only going to get worse, and she couldn’t bear it.
She hadn’t forgotten why she was here, why Selene had offered her a new chance at life. She knew what Thomas was capable of, and she wasn’t here to save their love.
But she couldn’t stop her heart from breaking when the man she had loved turned violent against her. She was mad at herself for feeling hurt.
It should no longer matter what he said or did. He didn’t love her. She knew that. But her stupid heart was still vulnerable to him. That’s the only reason his earlier outburst hurt her.
It would take time to stop getting affected by the memories of their good times, but one thing was sure–she was never looking back.
Once she divorced him, she’d make a clean break and forget about him within no time. With time, he’d be just another asshole who betrayed her trust. Someone she never should have fallen for in the first place.
She sat at her vanity to remove her makeup and jewellery. The night had ended up in a disaster, but she reminded herself that it hadn’t all been in vain.
While at the party, she managed to talk to many Alphas, and she was feeling more confident about gaining enough support at the Alpha selection. She just needed to wait a bit longer and her efforts would pay off.
She had just finished removing her makeup when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID, it was a strange number. She picked it up anyway.
“Hello?”
“Eleanor? It’s Henry.”
“Oh,” she muttered. He must have gotten her number from Ethan. “Hi.”
“Hi?” he asked, sounding amused. “Is that all I get after you ran off on me? And here I was, thinking we were getting along just fine.”
Eleanor bit her lip as she recalled their earlier meeting. Her cheeks coloured as she remembered how he had held her against him. What would have happened if Mia’s scream hadn’t interrupted them?
“Sorry about that,” she told him. “Something came up.”
On the other side, Henry noticed that she was a little subdued. He had hoped to catch her again at the party, but when he went downstairs, he found out she had already left. What had happened between then and now to ruin her mood?
“Is everything alright?” he asked.
“You said that you would support me under one condition,” she told him. “Whatever it is, I’m willing to accept as long as you help me divorce my husband and replace him as Alpha.”
“That can wait,” he told her, “I’ll tell you about it in time. For now, let’s talk about how to get you what you want.”
Eleanor was grateful that Henry was willing to start helping her without fulfilling his condition first. But it also made her more curious about what the condition was. What was his intention?
As they discussed the steps to take, she decided not to worry about it. As long as he helped her get rid of Thomas, she would be fine with whatever condition he had.
She felt much better after her conversation with Henry. He was quite easy to talk to, contrary to what she had expected. She went to bed feeling more confident about her plan.
The next day, Eleanor dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a sweater and left the house. She and Sophia were going shopping at the mall.
She had decided it was time to change her wardrobe. The time for being modest and toeing the line because she wanted to maintain a certain image as Luna was gone.
She was looking forward to a good shopping experience, but they came across an obstacle the moment they walked through the mall’s entrance.
Mia.
She was wearing a red designer dress with a bejewelled bust. It was obviously obscenely expensive, and she knew it was Thomas who had bought it for her.
On seeing them, Mia greeted her, lowering her gaze to the floor. “Hello, Luna.”
Eleanor had no interest in going along with her innocent act. “Looks like your mate is taking good care of you,” she noted. “He is quite generous to you, something I cannot say that I, as his Luna, has ever experienced.”
Mia looked as if she was about to say something back, but Eleanor didn’t dally. Hooking her arm around Sophia’s, she led her into the mall.
“What was that?” Sophia asked, looking back to catch another glance at Mia. “Why would you tell her that? She probably feels like a queen now.”
“He is treating her like one, isn’t he?”
Sophia gave her a confused look. “Are you okay?”
“Yes,” she replied cheerily. “How about we do some shopping now? You are going to love me today.”
“Am I?”
A little while later, Sophia understood what Eleanor meant. Unlike her other shopping trips, this time, Eleanor picked out beautiful and sexy clothes and tried them on.
She ended up liking most and bought all of them. The cost added up pretty quickly, and she used Thomas’s card for all of them without a blink. Since he was so generous, he wouldn’t mind spending a little on his own wife, would he?
They were taking a break having milkshakes at a café when Thomas called her. She received the call right away and chirpily greeted him, “Hello, husband.”
“What are you up to?” he asked. For a moment, she thought Mia had made up a complaint about her and he was calling to chastise her. Instead, it was about her spending. “What are you spending all this money on?”
“Oh, that?” she asked. “I thought I should get myself a few apology gifts for how you behaved last night. Don’t worry, a Luna should learn to pamper herself. Don’t you agree?”
“What?” he muttered.
“I’ve got to go,” she told him and hung up on him.
On the other side, Thomas looked down at the sparkling gem necklace in his hand. He had gotten it as an apology gift for Eleanor but was yet to get a chance to give it.
He regretted how he had treated her last night, even going as far as almost hitting her! He wished she’d quit making him so angry and stop making things more complicated than they had to be.
No matter what she thought, he wanted her to remain his Luna, and he didn’t want their relationship to deteriorate any further. But what was he supposed to do when she was determined to go against him?
He looked at Miller, who was in the room with him. “Was I wrong to bring Mia back to our pack?”
He had thought about it last night. Everything had been going well until the moment he brought Mia to the pack. True, she was his mate, but was it okay to ruin everything else because of that?
He had expected Eleanor to welcome her with open arms, but her reaction had worsened everything. All he had wanted was to give his mate a safe home and to have her close to him.
At first, he had thought he could convince Eleanor, but that didn’t seem possible anymore. Everything he did seemed to piss her off and push her away from him.
“You should listen to your heart,” Miller told him. “The mate bond is irresistible, so you couldn’t have left her behind. You shouldn’t blame yourself for that.”
Thomas remained quiet, thinking on Miller’s words. What did his heart want?
