Chapter 5

"Who are you? Why are you interfering with things that are none of your business?" Melissa looked at the man in front of her with disgust, her mood instantly soured. The man paid her no mind. Instead, he stared at Melissa solemnly with a degree of cold anger in his eyes. “Brother——” Nancy called him "brother", which greatly surprised Melissa Brother? Could he be the Second Young Master of the Clarkson family, Joseph Clarkson? Joseph, a man of legend who, with one stomp of his foot, could make the entire city of S tremble three times. Not even three Humphrey Corporations combined could match the influence and wealth of the Clarkson family. Nancy’s marriage to Liam was not by coincidence. It was because the strength of the Clarkson family behind her made the Humphrey family hold her in high regard. Although she'd never met Mr Clarkson in person, he was well-known in S City. He was known as a genius in the business world, a man with a cold heart, and a ruthless way of doing things! Meeting him now, his reputation holds true! "Why did you hit her?" His voice was so cold, it seemed as if it were coming straight from hell. Melissa was not scared, and instead squinted her eyes and glared at the man in front of her. His hand only used a third of his strength, but it was so painful when it clamped down on Melissa's wrist that she could barely bear it. Even so, Melissa didn’t even furrow her brows. "A dignified second master of the Clarkson family, brawling with a helpless woman in a public place. Aren't you scared of being ridiculed if this news gets out?" Her voice was icy cold, bearing a streak of untamed defiance. A hint of surprise flashed through Joseph eyes. Never before has anyone dared to talk to him like that. Who exactly was this woman? "Too weak to truss a chicken? Based on your attempt to strike someone just now, you didn't seem weak at all." In Joseph's eyes, this woman was a wolf in sheep's clothing! He had met many cunning and crafty women already, she didn't need to play the weak and pitiful act in front of him! It seemed that Mr Clarkson wanted to defend his sister. Melissa sneered, "It's only natural that you would defend your sister. But she was the one who instigated the assault, what do you mean by grabbing me like this?" Joseph suddenly leaned in close, his eyes cold as he looked at Melissa challenging her, "It was wrong for her to hit you first, but you have already retaliated." The distance was too close. The crisp scent of his tobacco-laced breath brushed over Melissa's face, causing her to pause momentarily. Such a familiar scent! Why did it give her a feeling of deja vu? Have I seen this man somewhere before? With hesitation, Melissa gazed at Joseph her eyes filled with confusion. "She started by hitting me. The slap just now was merely retribution. But this next slap will be to teach her a lesson." Melissa pronounced each word clearly, as if she was not ready to back down. Finally, Nancy, behind Joseph couldn't restrain herself any longer, "Brother, it was her that schemed against me first!" It was clearly a case of the villain complaining first. Seeing how things had escalated, Melissa didn't hold back anymore. She reproached in a cold voice, "I schemed against you? When you schemed against others and stole your best friend's husband, didn't you consider the possibility of facing today’s consequences?" Melissa's voice was loud, attracting quite a few people's attention. Seeing everyone's gaze being attracted, Nancy felt some irritation, thinking that she really had made a fool of herself today. "Bitch, I'll make sure to tear your mouth apart for your ridiculous rambling!" Nancy was livid and ready to retaliate, but she was held back by Mr Clarkson. Melissa didn't want to continue this pointless argument and turned to leave, Joseph didn't give her that chance. His hand was still tightly gripping Melissa's, showing no sign of letting go. Melissa was incensed but found that she couldn't break free. As the saying goes: Like father, like son. Like mother, like daughter. If her sister is no good, her brother wouldn't be any better. Melissa's first impression of Mr Clarkson was awfully bad!
