CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVEN THE WORRY
Daphne's POV
I heard footsteps approaching and looked up, hoping it was Javion returning with good news.
But it was only one of the pack members checking in. They offered a sympathetic smile, which did little to ease my anxiety. I managed a weak smile in return, though it didn’t reach my eyes.
I turned back to my son, holding him close. “You’re all I have to hold on to,” I murmured, tears welling up again. “I need to be strong for you, but I’m so scared. What if this doesn’t end well? What if—”
My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden burst of energy from the warriors preparing for battle. Their chatter, though filled with bravado, only served to remind me of the impending conflict.
I could hear them joking and making plans, their laughter echoing through the night. It was meant to be reassuring, I suppose, but it only deepened my sense of dread.
I moved a few paces away from the group, trying to find a quiet spot where I could collect my thoughts. I leaned against a nearby tree
