Chapter Fifty-Five: Dead
I felt warm sweat washing my face like soap on the bathroom walls. Aggressively wiping my forehead, I hoped I had heard the name wrong, but it wasn't a mistake.
It was indeed the correct name—the name I dreaded. "What did you say the name was again?" I asked again to be sure.
"He said, Gabriel Louis, babe, I just mentioned that. And he said you know him very well, and he's a friend of yours and helped you get around Paris when you traveled. He spoke very well of you." He said.
"He did? You waited to have a discussion with him? He is a stranger, and you don't even know him. And besides, how are you sure he isn't lying? Do you think I will actually make friends with a chauffeur?" I replied.
"It was not really a discussion; I was just asking how he became friends with you because, I mean, why will you make friends with a chauffeur? That was the discussion we had."
