Chapter Forty: The Betrayal
There were more people than I had expected to see. Old and new faces but mostly people I worked with. My speech was brief and I spent most of it sipping from a cup and wishing for it to come to an end. The soft sofa chair caressed my back as I leaned on it. It was a perfect spot to hide away from the crowd.
I moved my eyes around the room scanning every corner of it.
“Hey beautiful.”
Thomas walked up to me.
“Don't sneak up on me like that.”
“I'm sorry about that.”
"What are you doing here anyway? Last I checked you weren't a staff here anymore because I fired you.”
“I'm still a stakeholder. You look beautiful in that dress. Didn't think you would choose to wear it. I know what just fits you right.”
“Don’t patronize yourself and don't think that you know me.”
“I need a favor from you Regina.”
“Thomas, you never cease to amaze me. Now you need a favor? What do you want? So you can leave me the hell alone.”
“I just found out I have a son.”
“Yeah, Jayden.”
“Another son.”
