Her eyelashes fluttered, and those images faded away.
Naomi gently patted the person in her arms, listening to her sobs, and softly said, "Belle, let's go inside."
Belle nodded against her chest, unable to stop crying. She was so overwhelmed that she could not even speak. Naomi held her and guided her inside.
The door closed behind them.
Dylan stood at the corner, watching the two women enter the room. The anger in his eyes long faded, replaced by heartache, guilt, and regret.
It was his fault.
He was a grown man. He should not have lost his temper with her. Whatever the situation was, he should have talked to her calmly. Even if Belle liked John, he should have tried to persuade her slowly, and patiently.
As these thoughts swirled in his mind, Dylan stepped forward and looked at the closed door.
He would wait.
When the night passed and her emotions settled, he would talk to her properly.
The small town slept under the quiet midnight sky. Cars and pedestrians long disappeared
