Chapter 5
Vera's eyes were red and swollen, and pain and heartache were all written on her face.
The servant left after confirming. After a few minutes, she came back. She had a look of contempt on her face, as if Vera was vermin in her eyes.
“The boss said, a hen who doesn’t lay eggs are useless. The contract is terminated and the advance payment is yours.”
A hen who doesn’t lay eggs?
Ten months later, the phrase “hen that doesn’t lay eggs” still echoed in her ears. Ironically, she was holding a month-old infant in her arms as she stood in front of the mountain top villa.
She could say that she was familiar with this mansion, but not the man who lived in it.
Looking at the baby in her arms, she hesitated before finally ringing the doorbell.
The same maid received her, the one with a perpetual mocking expression on her face.
Although the maid was surprised when she suddenly appeared holding a child, she immediately contacted the boss.
“The boss asked you to enter the bedroom and wait for him. You can’t see him as before. Give me the child for a paternity test.”
“Don’t worry, I know the rules. But I won’t give it to you, I can only give it to him.”
She spoke with disdain. What made this woman think she would hand her child to just anyone?
After she finished speaking, she went to the dark and cold bedroom with the child in her arms.
Putting the sleeping child on the bed, she was full of reluctance. She could barely look at his fair skin and round face.
“Baby, I’m sorry. Mommy loves you.”
Repeatedly apologizing to the child, carefully looking at every part of the child’s body, she wanted to engrave everything about it in her mind. This will be her last memory of her son.
Vera‘s teardrops fell on the child’s body. Even though she was unwilling to give it up, she still chose to give the child to his father.
Because she had no ability to raise him.
There is too much helplessness in life, this kind of is the most cruel, she is experiencing.
Forty minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
she turned off the lights in the room before allowing people outside to come in.
In the dark it was still that tall and straight figure, or the faint smell of cologne, nothing changed, the only thing that changed was that there was an extra child in this room.
“When you left, it was confirmed that you were not pregnant. What happened to this child?”
As the man spoke, his sharp eyes fell on the wriggling child on the bed. Although he can’t see his appearance, he can feel his weakness.
“The doctor said that it happens sometimes. I didn’t know that I was pregnant until more than four months after.”
It was the first time she talked about her pregnancy with a strange man, and she wasn’t calm at all.
“You came to me only after the child was born. What do you want?”
The man still had obvious anger in his cold tone.
“Money. If I didn’t need it so badly, I wouldn’t give him up.”
If it wasn’t for her dire need of money, she would rather keep her son. All this was because of money.
He looked at her impatiently. “You don’t seem to be short of money now. I hate people who lie to me.”
“I’m not hiding anything. You think too much. I really should have come to you when I learned I was pregnant. At that time, I didn’t feel the sense of urgency, and wanted to keep the child for myself, but reality came back to bite me. I don’t have the financial capacity to raise him.”
Vera had no other choice. No one could understand her pain, least of all this man. f
“Just get a DNA test. It’s your child.”
she didn’t want to continue talking to this man. Although the child was too young to understand or remember, still these words were cruel.
she understood why he had such a reaction, but a DNA test can solve that, right?
“Do you think that a single DNA test can fix everything? You have been away for ten months, don’t you know that so much can change in such a long time?”
The man suddenly roared loudly, that he frightened the baby on the bed.
The baby burst into tears. She hurriedly turned around to comfort the child. Although he could not see the expression on her face, her voice undoubtedly sounded like a protective mother.
“Don’t cry baby, don’t be afraid of mom.”
The baby seemed to be really frightened. No matter how much Vera comforted him, he continued to cry loudly. she had no choice but to use breast milk to alleviate the baby’s fear.
She picked up the child, turned her back to the man, and began to breastfeed skillfully. He observed as she fed the infant, a frown fixed on his face.
The baby finally stopped crying and fell asleep.
she put the child down gently and turned to face the man again. She also couldn’t see the man’s face, but she could feel the man’s cold breath.
