Chapter 17
After returning to Hoffman Estate, Charlotte made a detour to Pinecrest Residence.
Errol was practicing calligraphy when she arrived. As soon as he saw her, his face lit up with a warm smile, and he waved her over. "Well, what do you think? My brushwork is strong and powerful, huh?"
Charlotte walked around the table and studied it. "I don't really know anything about calligraphy, but it looks beautiful.
"It's like the bonsai on the table—quietly growing under the light, unique and self-contained. It feels like it has the strength to break through the cracks in the stone and firmly take root."
Errol had heard countless flowery compliments about his calligraphy over the years, but this was the first time someone had compared it to a bonsai. And oddly enough, he liked it. That was exactly why he kept the plant there in the first place.
"It's like an independent spirit that stands tall and is resilient in the face of adversity."
