CHAPTER NINE - AN EMAIL NEVER MEANT TO BE SEEN
Emma heaved a heavy box up the stairs, her muscles straining. Sarah followed close behind, equally burdened.
"Tell me again why we're doing this on our day off?" Emma grunted.
Sarah laughed breathlessly. "Because you love me and I promised mimosas after?"
They reached Sarah's apartment door, dropping the boxes with a thud. Sarah fumbled for her keys, letting them in.
"Alright, spill," Sarah said, collapsing onto her couch. "What's going on with you and Marcus this time?"
Emma sighed, sinking down beside her friend. "Is it that obvious?"
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Em, you've been moping for days. What happened?"
Emma tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her green eyes clouding with worry. "It's... complicated."
Sarah leaned forward, her freckled face serious. "I've got all day, and we've got boxes to unpack. Start from the beginning."
Emma took a deep breath. "Okay. It started last week. Marcus got a text while we were having dinner. He looked... flustered."
"Flustered how?"
