CHAPTER 62
When I got back to the hotel room, the door was unbolted just the way I had left it and Kenzie was asleep on the couch, a few bottles of alcohol sprawled all over the wooden floors.
Had she been drinking, waiting for me to come back?
I sighed at the sight and walked over to her sleeping frame. Her hair was a mess and a half-drunk bottle of alcohol was tight in her grip. Cautiously and gentle enough not to cause any noise that could wake her up, I retrieved the bottle from her hand and moved to pick up the other bottles on the floor. I walked into the kitchen and dumped them in the trash can.
I wondered why she always drank this much. Always enough to cause her to pass out.
"Maybe if I had a mother too, I wouldn't think this much."
Was that it? Did she take into drinking because she didn't have a mother to stop her? Someone to listen to her when she nagged and when she cried? Was that why she had resolved to bottle her emotions and use alcohol to subside them?
