CHAPTER 3

Kelly had contacted me again without delays and sent me a part payment immediately. I put her through the process of giving me access to her husband's phone calls and text messages. I had also searched up his information online and discovered his name was Ryan Brooks. I had also tapped almost a hundred of his calls and he hadn't seen any signs of infidelity yet. Was this woman even sure about what she was saying? Once again, the idea that she might be just a delusional housewife crossed my mind but it didn't matter as long as she was sending in the other half part of my payment after the job was done. Now, it was already 10pm and there was nothing more frustrating than having no single result at all. I had transferred his call histories and text messages to my laptop and accessed every one of them and I swear there was no suspicious trace of infidelity in his records. Unless of course, he was cautious enough to delete all of them without a single trace. A minute later, I was beginning to drowse off when another connection jerked me off my sleep. 'Fuck!" I cussed and quickly looked around for any sign that JoJo might have heard me. I pressed my lips in a thin line of gratitude. Adjusting my headset and sitting upright, I frowned and paid attention to the phone call. 'Hey, Jasper." There was brief silence on the other end of the line. 'Jasper, are you there?" Silence. 'Shoot." 'Xavier Hotel. 10Pm. Don't be late." My brows furrowed in curiosity as the call ended. Clearly, this one call was very much different from the others. Whoever this Japer of a guy was, there was something shitty going on between him and Ryan. Was it an illegal deal that involved drugs or ammunition? Maybe I was going too far with my thoughts but I really believe there was something more behind the phone call. I bit my lips as I analyzed the situation carefully. It was obvious Kelly might be wrong about what she saw. It might be true she saw what she saw but that doesn't prove anything. So, I was certain the result from the investigation would be negative. But then again, that doesn't prove her husband was Saint Joseph. He might as well be involved in a shittier deal that would interest her. And make me more money of course. I warn myself to steer clear off this. I wasn't hired for this and it should be the least of my concerns but I remained stubborn. This would get me more money. ••• The hotel was massive and the tall glasses of the gigantic building towered over the city. Exotic cars of all kinds were parked all across the entrance. I swallowed a little nervously as I watched ladies and men of the elite's class walk gorgeously into the front door that was guarded by two beefy security men. 'It's going to be fine, Kenzie." I muttered quietly and reassuringly to myself. 'Just as easy as it has always been." I pulled out a few dollar notes from my Chanel purse and handed it to the driver. Opening the door of the cab, I let my foot taste the ground first and when I was sure I had gotten a strong sexy stance, I alighted from the car and shut the door behind me. A few heads turned as I cat-walked past them and into the premises. Men looked on with hungry dumb expressions and the women tried to look past my dark sunshades probably to get a full glimpse of the short Asian girl in dark spaghetti sleeved gown and a two-inch red stiletto heels who was stealing the spotlight. I smiled at the security guards when I came closer and was a little surprised when they did not ask for my identity card. Was I looking too stunning that they couldn't get their shits, right? I smirked at a job well done. I knew I could always pull through. I never fail at a job. My eyes caught an empty waiting stool that faced the entrance door in the receptionist room and I settled my weight on it, crossing my legs to put up with my faux gorgeousness. I watched the entire room discreetly and sucked in the cold air in his absence. I glanced at my wristwatch. 9:57pm. I had prepared and arrived earlier than both of them. This was my job and lateness were the biggest factor in failure. Always arrive earlier than your targets. Picking a lifestyle magazine from the coffee table before me, I figured it was a great tool to immerse myself in, while waiting for the man of the moment. I browse through the photos of foods and interior decors and models with long swan-like necks and pale alabaster features. The last section of the magazine was a man who controlled the CEO page. It was a white and black photo of a modeling shot. My eyes lingered longer than necessary on the page and I gulped at the tingling sensation the photo of the model caused right in-between my legs. The hard lines of his abs and his torso exposed from the unbuttoned long sleeve shirt he wore was a sight to behold. It had a few droplets of water that highlighted his features. His hair was messy, unruly, wet and just-out-of-the-bathroom style. I found myself biting my bottom lips at the visibility of his veins on his muscled arms. Arms that could cup me up and pin me strongly to the walls till I begged for more of him. 'Hello, sir. Welcome back to our hotel." The welcoming voice of the receptionist pulled me out of my wild imaginations and I raised my head to the direction of the voice. A tall broad man with curly brown hair was being attended by the receptionists and I quickly pulled out my phone from my handbag to confirm what I was seeing was true. One look at the pictures of Ryan Brooks in my phone and the man standing before the receptionist, was enough to let me know they were the same person. I checked my wristwatch again. 10:01am. Perfect. My eyes searched around for any sign of his accomplice and just when I was beginning to think that he might have come all alone, a pair of sexy long legs joined him and embraced him in a hug that was too close and lasted too long to be called anything but intimate. It was a golden blonde haired young lady in a red gown with slits that exposed too much of her thighs. 'You're late, baby." Baby? Well, I guess that's my cue. 'I know, I know. My bad." 'Not fair. Steph. We talked about its last night and you agreed to the time. 10am." Crap! 'Forgive me, baby. I'll make it up to you. I promise." She pecked him briefly on the cheeks and my pupils dilated from behind the safety of my shades. Ryan Brooks was the smartest cheat alive. I spared a moment of pity for Kelly and felt even shittier for doubting her and thinking she was delusional. I mean, who would ever suspect Jasper was in fact, a woman named Steph whom he was obviously cheating on his wife with? I was sure there could be several others whose contacts he probably saved as Lewis or Sanchez or Rider. Little wonder he had very little female contacts stored on his phone. Way to go, Ryan. I quickly swung into task B, reaching for the techy babies in my handbag. Hiding them in my palms, I rose from my seat and took long confident strides towards the receptionist counter. When I was a shoulder inch away from Ryan and his woman, I intentionally bumped shoulders with him and struggled to find balance. The man quickly reached for my weight to stop me from falling and the woman lent a hand to help me regain balance. 'I'm so sorry." Ryan was saying. 'Don't worry. I'm fine." I feigned an attempt to wipe invisible specks of dust off my dress and halfheartedly returned the woman's apologetic smile. 'I was erm…going to ask the receptionist for any nice cafes nearby." I added. 'I know a good one just down the next street. Blu café. You're going to love it." Stepha answered and if I didn't know enough already, I would say she was lovable. But man, do I hate her smiles. If I had the chance to pick her nice dentations off her mouth and leave her toothless, I would do it with my favorite music playing in the background. 'Alright. Blu café." I offered the cheating couples another smiles of gratitude and turned my back against them. As I walked out of the room and the building entirely, a small smirk played on my lips. Lights. Cameras. Action.
