CHAPTER 3

Jeremy's words caused my heart to drum to the beat of the fear and nervousness coursing through my veins. My legs became heavy underneath me but then he placed his hand on the wall beside my head and began to lean into me slowly. I tried to shout at him, but since my voice had magically disappeared, I closed my eyes and began to anticipate the worst. But just as his warm breath began to brush my face, a soft throaty chuckle suddenly emanated from Jeremy's throat and my eyes fluttered open immediately "You think I was going to kiss you," a wave of embarrassment descended over me and my cheeks turned red as I watched him laugh at me as he leaned back. "You really think I was going to kiss you?" He said again "My acting skills are starting to pay off." His mocking laughter continued and he raised his right index finger at me, "You're more stupid than I thought. You fell for my acting." The kind of embarrassment I felt at that moment stripped me naked with shame. I wrapped my arms around my body and cowered feeling cold and small inside. This was the height of it, getting myself baptized with orange juice was actually nothing and now the whole school would accuse me of trying to steal someone else's boyfriend. They would label me a slut. But then the smug look on Jeremy's face irritated me so much that I decided that I wouldn't let his ego feed on my sadness. I wouldn't give him something to brag about to his stuck-up friends. "I actually closed my eyes because I was anticipating how my system would react to the rotten smell of your mouth," I said. "I was practically begging myself not to throw up. Why would I want to kiss a mouth that cannot answer questions correctly in class?" Pushing my glasses further up my nose, I pushed him aside and walked away, my face still burning red as I could hear him laughing in the distance. What a jerk! As I proceeded to leave the locker room, I placed my hand on my temple to gather my thoughts and to suppress the sudden ache in my head when I suddenly bumped into a hard wall. Books went flying in the air instantly, but I was too dazed to realize that they were not my books and that I hadn't actually bumped into a wall. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry." I didn't even let him move as I quickly picked up all the books and arranged them. However, as I straightened up to hand it to him, I froze with shock and my pupils dilated as my eyes locked with Jason's. Jason Deli. The Alpha's son of Howler Moon pack. My pack. He was standing there with his golden irises for eyes staring into mine, his dark violet hair hanging over his forehead. Standing at an impressive height of 6'9 inches, he possessed a tall, muscular frame that left me wanting to run my hands over them and feel how strong and hard he was underneath that shirt straining against his biceps. When he suddenly cleared his throat, I almost blushed another shade of red when I realized my eyes had trailed from his, and was boldly checking him out. Moon goddess, please kill me now. "Amaya right?" He suddenly looked me over and noticed my clothes stained with orange juice which Kayla had spilled on me earlier. "I'm sorry about what happened earlier. Kayla and Amanda would do anything to try and make your life miserable, but don't let them get to you." My heart swelled as I smiled and nodded. I really liked Jason. I liked everything about him but don't blame me, who would not? Jeremy and Jason happened to be the heirs of the strongest packs in the land. They were also the hottest guys in the school but while Jeremy was a ruthless bully, and an arrogant playboy who had slept with half the girls in the school, Jason was kind, easygoing and warm. Jason respected everyone and he kept his philandering business clean. He did not go around bragging about the girls he slept with and slut shaming them. Jason had always treated me nicely, but I doubted if he would ever look past seeing me as merely a girl who belonged in his pack. He got my name right though. That's a starter. "Thanks, Jason," I muttered, shifting my gaze to the floor and he smiled, but suddenly, his smile transformed into a frown. "Is anything wrong?" "No, there's nothing wrong," I answered, but he wouldn't stop scanning me from head to toe. Just then his scrutinizing eyes landed on Jeremy and his gaze darkened with anger. It was as if he had figured out what happened. I suspected that Jason was going to say something else, so I quickly walked out of the room before he could get the words out. I couldn't even meet his eyes as I walked away after briefing him for a short time and I quickly made my way to the bathroom, ignoring the eyes threatening to pierce into my soul. I prayed I wouldn't bump into Kayla or Amanda and almost sighed a breath of relief when I got to the bathroom untouched. Amanda was the Beta's daughter of my pack and she and Kayla were like peas in a pod. They were nuisances, callous and mischievous. They simply loved seeing people like me suffer for the fun of it, and because of their reputation, they were confident the school authorities couldn't expel them. As such, they became the terrorizers of the school. However, when they went too far by smashing Jeremy's new Lamborghini with baseball bats and splashing paint all over it, they were suspended for one week and only returned to bully me worse than ever, like I was the reason they got expelled. To be honest, it seems like whenever they're upset and are looking for who to transfer the aggression to, they'll just look around for me and when they see me they'll be like, "That's the perfect place!" I was still drying the orange juice off my shirt while regretting why I wore my favorite white shirt when I suddenly heard footsteps heading towards the bathroom. The next second, I heard Kayla chuckling evilly and I bolted into one of the toilet cubicles and locked it from the inside. I could feel my heart pounding as I closed the lid of the toilet and climbed over it, ensuring I was cradling my bag tightly to my chest before raising my legs up with a hand over my mouth. "There's no way you thought Jeremy would want to get back together with you after wrecking his car…" Amanda said with a chuckle, and from the crack, I could make out her blonde shimmering hair as she stood close to the mirror, popping off the head of a lip gloss to apply it. "Oh, he's definitely going to want me back after this." "You really think faking a pregnancy report and telling him you're already three weeks gone is going to make him get back together with you and make him your Luna? I don't think you know who Jeremy is, girl." Hearing Amanda's words my eyes widened, but before I could stop myself, a gasp tore from my lips. There was complete silence after that, and I could feel my hands trembling over my now-sealed mouth. I wished that I could just disappear the moment I heard Kayla slowly approach my cubicle. "Which fucker decided to eavesdrop on us? Get out. Now." I didn't move, but I knew It was either that or she broke down the door since she was incredibly strong. Either way, I was dead. "Come out now"Amanda growled again "Have you gone mad?" My heart did flip flops in my chest and my stomach tightened up when she banged the door with her fist "Who is in there? Who is eavesdropping on us?" I opened my mouth to give her a response but I couldn't even get a whimper out. The secret I'd discovered was a delicate one and so I was sure that I wouldn't get away with it. "Who is in there, Amanda?" Kayla asked as she approached my cubicle as well "Who is listening to us?" "I don't know." I sensed fear in their voices and this frightened me the more, but before I could process my thoughts. The door of the cubicle burst open and I came face to face with the two girls who resembled monsters because of how bloodshot their eyes had become. "Oh it's you," Amanda said through clenched teeth as she took slow steps inside the cubicle. There was anger in her eyes and hatred in her voice. "You have the nerve to eavesdrop on me, Amaya, you have the audacity! The ferocious heaviness of the last statement was accompanied by a hot slap. A slap that blinded my right eye for a second the instant it landed on my face, wheezing sounds engulfed my head and I fell to my knees. "I've been seeking the perfect opportunity to get rid of you for a while now and I'm glad you've given me one." "I will not tell anyone what I heard. Please don't hurt me." "You won't need to keep a secret Amaya," Kayla said as she dipped her hand into her pocket and fished out a pen knife. "You won't even have to bother." I attempted to stand up the moment my eyes caught the glistening of the sharp knife but Amanda threw a kick into my belly and blood spluttered out of my mouth. "If Jeremy learns my secret, it would put me in big trouble. It would even affect my father's position." "Please don't kill me, Amanda, please I beg you." "I've been looking for a way to get rid of you, Amaya. You're prettier and smarter than me and look at your body shape." She stopped and spat irritably. "You're everything I am not and I'm sick of comparing myself to you. I'm sick of having to contend with you." She took a few steps closer after she gestured for Kayla to close the door behind her. "It'll be stupid to try to kill you with a knife, so I'll stuff your head into the toilet seat until your brain is filled with water." I gasped as the words settled into my ears but before I could think of something. The two girls grabbed me roughly, yanked me off the floor, and began to steer me in the direction of the rotten toilet seat. I tried moving my arms and legs but I was strengthless against them. This was what starvation did to you and I might as well just welcome the end. When they succeeded in dragging me to the front of the toilet, they pushed me to my knees and flipped the toilet open. Kayla grabbed a fistful of my hair while Amanda held my neck in place and they buried my head into the stinking water only that I could not feel disgusted at that point. "Don't do this Amanda", but my tongue sank into the water as my face became immersed in it. "What is going on here!" The shrill masculine voice jolted the evil girls out of their evil imagination and they hurriedly let go of me "What are you doing to her? What is the meaning of this nonsense?" Tension descended into the room and the heavy footsteps made it into the room. Suddenly, it made me realize that I wasn't dead yet, but I had no strength to stand up. "This is none of your business, Jeremy. Get out of here." Wait, did I just hear? Jeremy? "You have no right to tell me what to do." "And you have no right to be in the female's toilet." Jeremy ignored Kayla's statement and the next instant, a pair of strong hands grabbed me and pulled me to my feet.
