Once Felipe was done speaking, he picked up his coat and turned to leave. Madeline watched Felipe’s departing figure, and little by little, the light in her eyes extinguished. In the end, there was nothing left in her gaze but utter despair. She did not know how Jeremy would treat her; she only knew that his methods would certainly be very cruel. She would never forget that, like some demon from hell, he had dug open a grave and let the wind and snow scatter the ashes of his own daughter.
