Chapter 7

Selena revealed the only smile today, with the corners of her lips slightly opened, her eyes were half-curved, she spoke, "I'm not just being polite, I really am thankful." People say that a confidant is rare. Selena thought how lucky she was to meet such a gentleman, as the old saying goes, "The friendship between gentlemen is as pale as water, clear and without motives nor suspicions." Yael looked at her refreshing smile, and then looked at the other person in a daze. After a while, he smiled and said, "Okay, your thanks for this time, I will take it." Seeing her turn around and walk a few steps away, Yael called the other person again, "So, are we friends from now on?" Selena turned sideways slightly and responded with a smile, "Maybe in the future." Back in the villa, it was pitch black. Selena knew that there was no one inside. For two years, she was actually more like a full-time housekeeper for life who was hired with a marriage certificate than being the hostess of the house, but the real owner of this villa seemed to have been squeezed out of the house by this full-time housekeeper, except that he occasionally comes back to rest at night. Besides, he hasn't even had dinner with her, not even once. In this dark living room, Selena wanted to curl up the corners of her lips to give herself a mocking smile, but found that her face seemed to be frozen and she couldn't make any expressions at all. Without turning on the wall lamp in the living room, she went directly to her bedroom, cleaned herself up and went to bed. The whole space returned to calm again. "No, I don't want..." "I was wrong, don't..." There were a few fearful murmurs in the dark night, and a clearer and louder "Don't!" came again, Selena shivered all over, woke up, clenched the quilt in her hand, and stared at the darkness of nothingness. After a while, when her eyes could barely see things in the dark, she quickly looked around and found that only she was there, and she slowly relaxed. Don't be afraid, you are the only one here, Selena. He won't come back. Last night was just an accident and he won't be back this time. Don't be afraid, Selena, it's just a dream. It's all right, it's just a dream. After calming herself down, she fell asleep again, but was awakened by a nightmare unexpectedly. Later, she spent the latter half of the night with her ears on alert, always trying to catch any movement outside the room until dawn. Then, after making breakfast and eating, she finally determined that the person did not come home last night. The next day, sometimes she could not fall asleep in the first half of the night, expecting that the person might come home, and sometimes she woke up in the middle of the night, thinking she heard movements outside the room until dawn. On the third night, Eugene still did not come home. While Selena breathed a sigh of relief, she still couldn't relax. Tonight, after waking up in the middle of the night again and listening to the outside for any sign of movements with her ears on alert, she guessed that Eugene would probably not be back this evening as well. She could no longer fight her lack of sleep the past few days, and finally fell asleep deeply. In the quiet night, Selena was sleeping soundly. Suddenly, the door was pushed open by a pair of powerful hands, and a tall man walked in. For more than two years, Eugene rarely came home. Even if he did, he would stay in the study to deal with the things that should be done, and his wife, the woman named Selena, was always cautious of him.
