CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT –LEADING THE TEAM

Joan reached out, placing a reassuring hand on Derek's arm. "Derek, you're doing great. Yes, there's always room for improvement, but that's true for all of us. I'm here to support you and help you grow, not to replace you." Derek's familiar smile began to return. "Thanks, Joan. I'm sorry I doubted you. It's just, when Stacey said those things, I got scared." Joan nodded understanding. "I get it, Derek. But in the future, if you hear something that worries you, please come talk to me directly. My door is always open." "I will," Derek promised. "And Joan? You're a really great manager. I'm glad you're here." As Derek left the break room with a spring in his step, Joan felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She'd managed to defuse the situation, but she knew she'd need to keep a close eye on things. The rest of the day passed in a blur of customers and pizza orders. Joan made a point to check in with each of her staff members, offering encouragement and support where needed. She noti
