A guard's footsteps echoed nearby. Joan held her breath, willing herself to become one with the shadows. "Hey, Marco!" the guard called out. "You see anything?" "Nah, all quiet," came the reply from somewhere to Joan's left. "Just like every other night." "Yeah, well, keep your eyes peeled. Antonio's on edge about that American woman." Joan's ears perked up at the mention of herself. She listened intently as the guards continued their conversation. "What's so special about her anyway?" Marco asked.
