CHAPTER THIRTEEN – DUMB CUSTOMERS
As they walked to the campus coffee shop, Joan felt a weight lift from her shoulders. She wasn't alone in this, and sometimes, that made all the difference.
Later that day, Joan arrived at Miles Pizza for her shift. She tied on her apron, hoping for a quiet night after the chaos of the past few days.
However, fate had other plans. About an hour into her shift, a middle-aged woman approached the counter, her face set in a scowl.
"Excuse me," the woman said, her voice sharp. "I need to speak to a manager."
Joan put on her best customer service smile. "Is there a problem, ma'am? I'd be happy to help if I can."
The woman's scowl deepened. "Oh, there's a problem alright. You overcharged me."
Joan frowned, confused. "I'm sorry to hear that. Can you show me your receipt? I'd be glad to check it for you."
"I don't have the receipt," the woman snapped. "But I know what I ordered, and I know what I paid. And you charged me too much."
