Chapter 5
Gabriella arrived quickly.
Her expression was cold as she looked at Blake. "Warren was just acting on impulse, and nothing actually happened. Let's just drop this."
There was a hint of warning in her tone, but Blake ignored it completely.
"Absolutely not. This has to be dealt with properly!"
A wave of murmurs spread through the crowd. Everyone whispered about how brave Blake was and how much he must love Elena.
Gabriella's face darkened, and her tone turned even colder. "I said it's over. Are you really going to go against me on this?"
That single sentence ignited something in Blake.
His eyes were already red with emotion, and they were filled with raw frustration. He lost all composure and shouted, "Don't you get it? That man doesn't deserve you!
"I won't let trash like him stay by your side. He needs to be locked up!"
The room fell into a stunned silence. And at that moment, everyone realized—Blake wasn't fighting for Elena.
He was fighting for Gabriella.
A wave of coldness spread through Elena's chest. The heart she had barely pieced back together after shattering once before truly broke beyond repair this time around.
The police arrived soon after, cuffing the rock singer and taking him away. Elena, Blake, and Gabriella were also brought in to give their statements.
When Elena stepped out after finishing hers, she saw Blake at the far end of the hallway. He was holding Gabriella's hand, speaking softly, still trying to coax her.
"That kind of scumbag belongs in jail. How about I make it up to you by giving myself to you instead?"
Gabriella jerked her hand away.
"A man like him deserved to be arrested, end of story. But tell me, Blake—were you upset because of me? Or because he tried to hurt Elena?"
Her gaze was sharp as she continued, "We grew up together. I've never seen you this shaken before."
Blake froze for a second before quickly responding, "Of course, it's because of you. You know I don't care about Elena."
Gabriella's eyes flickered with amusement before she smiled. "That's true. You did say she was just a free maid, after all.
"But still, I just got together with Warren, and now you've gone and thrown him in jail. I'm still upset. Just don't bother me for a while."
With that, she turned and walked away with a proud attitude. Blake stood frozen in place, as if his soul had been sucked out of him.
"Sir, your girlfriend is injured. Shouldn't you check on her?"
It was only when a police officer reminded him that he snapped back to reality, finally noticing Elena standing quietly nearby.
Blake's chest tightened.
He quickly strode over and reached out to steady her, his voice casual but laced with unease. "Elle, did you hear anything just now?"
For some reason, the moment the question left his lips, an unsettling panic crept into his heart. If Elena had heard the truth—if she knew everything—how would she react?
Somehow, he didn't dare think about it.
But Elena simply replied, "I just got here."
Blake let out a small breath of relief before quickly adding, "I only did all that today to leave a good impression on Ms. Sadberry.
"I mean, if she sees me favorably, I might get promoted faster. That way, we can earn more money, buy a house sooner, and get married."
His serious yet completely fabricated explanation made Elena want to laugh. For a brief moment, she had the urge to ask him, "Blake, do you really think I'm that stupid?"
But then again, she had been stupid. She was stupid enough to be fooled by him for two years, giving him her body, her love, and even her money. She had unknowingly supported a privileged rich heir for so long.
Yet now, she no longer felt the shame and humiliation she once did when she first discovered the truth. That was because she finally understood—she had never been the one at fault.
The one truly at fault was the person who betrayed her genuine love!
