Chapter 424
Emma pushed through the office door, laughing at something Jake said, and came to a sudden stop. On her desk was the biggest bunch of flowers she had ever seen outside a funeral home. Jake bumped into her from behind.
“What the hell, Emma?” he said, skirting around her immobile body. “What is that?”
They stood in the doorway staring at the flowers as if they were going to come alive and perform a song for them or maybe attack them.
“I don’t know,” she said, moving toward them cautiously. Emma didn’t like surprises. Especially surprises that were bigger than her head or, in fact, bigger than her entire upper body.
“Who sent you flowers?’ Jake asked, his voice odd.
“I have no idea,” she replied, her gaze still caught on the flowers and her body refusing to move. Nobody sent her expensive gifts. No one sent her gifts, period.
Jake huffed out a breath strode across the floor of the office and plucked the card from amongst the blooms.
“Looking forward to tonight,” he read, “signed Jonathon.
