Chapter 4
"Don't spew nonsense, Lenko," said Lester.
Lenko, however, did not listen to his brother. "Actually, before I came here, Father banned me from learning how to improve my psionic strength after he learned about my rank. He did that to ensure the continuation of the Waltzan family bloodline."
He pursed his lips and continued, "In any case, the laws laid down by Beast God didn't say that males with Rank SSS+ psionic strength would certainly have no descendants. What if you got lucky? So, you should be brave and go after her if you like her."
Lenko fled as soon as he said that.
"He actually had the guts to lecture me. What a cheeky brat." Lester shook his head helplessly. Lenko was still the same as he was when he was a child. He did not change at all.
Lester had thought about what Lenko mentioned. It was just that his result was the same every time he did his checkup at Hildi Beastkin Hospital—he was infertile. It was destined to be very difficult for him to have a child. It was not 100%, but the doctor was 99% sure of it.
That was no different from saying it was 100% and sentencing him to death.
It would be impossible for him to get a partner in this life.
…
Daphne had hardly left her room for the past week because she was studying very hard on the rules of this planet. Her belly was bulging at great speed.
She did not expect that her baby would grow so quickly. She even called for the system because of it. That was when she learned that Beastkin pregnancy, from conception to birth, only lasted a month, and she was no exception.
It only took half a month for Daphne to go from being scared to feeling the fetal movement to looking forward to the birth of her child.
She did not see Lester at all for half a month, but she saw Lenko very often. Lenko was very chatty. He should only be about 15 years old in human age, which meant that Daphne was not that much older than him. They would chat for a while sometimes when they bumped into each other.
One day, Lenko ran to her in excitement and said, "Daphne, my vacation is ending in two days, and I'll have to return to my family. I want to give you a gift before I leave, but I don't know what you like. That's why I came to ask you."
Daphne had long treated him as her friend, so she did not refuse. "How much is your budget?"
"Er… 500 thousand dollars! That's all I have left on my card. My family will only be giving me my allowance next month, but I can't wait until then anymore," Lenko replied.
"I'll have to give it a good thought. I've been too bored staying here lately. There's nothing much to do," said Daphne.
A lightbulb went off in Lenko's head. "Oh yes, you can download the hottest app for short videos in this interstellar empire. Many interesting things or the latest news would often be posted in the app. I would scroll through it to kill time when I was bored."
"But I don't have a phone. I can't use your method to kill time," said Daphne.
"That's a small issue. I'll order one for you on my phone. It'll be delivered by drone in half an hour."
"Really?" Daphne asked.
"When have I ever lied to you?" Lenko asked in return.
"Alright. The phone shall be your gift to me, then," said Daphne.
"Huh? Is it too simple?" Lenko asked.
Daphne shook her head. "I'll like the gift as long as it's from you. I also can't let you spend too much money."
"Alright, then. I'll be back, and I'll definitely pick the most expensive gift for you then."
"Alright. It's a deal," said Daphne.
Lenko started picking a phone with the best performance on the marketplace for Daphne. He did not see it, but her lips curled into a smile.
It had been half a month, and Lester had probably forgotten about Daphne. But it made sense. She was just a criminal; why should he remember her?
However, if she wanted to survive in this place in the future, she could not be out of touch with the things here.
She had no idea how long Lester would keep her in this manor. He might ask her to leave as soon as she delivered her child. Even if he said nothing, she could not keep staying since she had nothing to do with him.
Soon, the phone was delivered by a robot from the outside, and Lenko taught her how to use it.
The phone was not quite the same as the one Daphne had on her planet, but she was a fast learner. It did not take long for her to familiarize herself with the functions.
The next step was to help her authenticate her identity. Daphne did not have an ID, so she could only use the app that came with the phone, and she had no network.
Lenko was from the Waltzan family, so of course, he could not authenticate for her. He then had a household staff from the manor do it for Daphne.
Once the authentication was complete, her phone automatically got network. After she set up voice recognition, the phone became just like a robot and would not accept any orders from anyone but its owner.
"I've downloaded the app for you, Daphne. You can try opening it with your voice," said Lenko
Daphne was very familiar with that. It was just like a voice assistant for humans. "Open the short video app."
The phone automatically opened the app, and she could switch between the entertainment channel, the military channel, or the general channel as she pleased.
Also, if she felt the phone was too big and troublesome to carry, she could turn it into a watch, bracelet, or other accessories. It could be transformed as she pleased.
Daphne felt it was very interesting. She could make a call without a SIM card, and the phone was very easy to carry around.
She accidentally clicked on the military channel, and the big title caught her attention.
"Members of Renegade Coalition disguised as citizens have infiltrated Hildi. Residents are advised to avoid heading out after nightfall."
Lenko noticed it too. He thought she was scared, so he comforted her by saying, "Don't worry, Daphne. My brother has sent a troop to search for them. They'll be caught very soon."
So that was what Lester had been working on lately.
Suddenly, Lenko moved his head closer to Daphne and asked with great interest, "Daphne, what's your relationship with my brother? Also, are you pregnant with my brother's child? I'm very curious. If it's really my brother's child, then that means a person with psionic strength as powerful as my brother would still have hope of having a child of his own. That's great news!"
The way his mind worked was truly something else.
"No, I—" Daphne paused. If she told him that she was actually a criminal and was specially locked up here by Lester because of her special identity and her pregnancy, would he still talk to her in the future?
"The child is not your brother's. As for who I am, you'll know if you ask your brother," said Daphne.
"Fine." A hint of disappointment gleamed in Lenko's eyes, but it vanished in an instant because he remembered something else.
"Daphne, Lester has gotten a new type of hunting dog. Let's go check it out!" Lenko suggested.
Daphne had not seen a hunting dog from this planet, so she happily agreed.
Because her belly was as big as a human who was seven months pregnant, she was much slower when she walked. Fortunately, Lester had prepared a nanny named Britney Parker for her. With Britney supporting her, it was not too hard for her to walk.
There was a dog training ground in the manor dedicated to training hunting dogs. It was at the far corner of the manor, and it had a huge river behind it. Therefore, there was no need to worry that bad people would sneak in from this place.
As soon as the three of them arrived, they saw a dog that was bigger than a tiger locked up in a cage, and it was seeing red.
Daphne could not stop feeling uneasy after she saw the dog. It was unclear if it was because she was afraid.
At that moment, the robots standing on either side exploded without making any sound.
